Hi there,

On August 5th, my friends and I will need to get from Rome to Athens. Are there any high-speed ferries between Italy and Greece? Also, does anyone know from which Italian port and to which Greek port should we book the tickets? Any suggestions on ferry lines, websites, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Are there any budget airlines serving Rome and Athens?

Thanks a lot!
Dmitriy

hello

It's impossible to travel between Rome and Greece, but you serval other possiblilities

from Venice to Igoumentsa or Patra, with Minoan lines, for book (www.minoan.gr)
the same line but with anek lines (www.anek.gr)

You can also sail from Ancona to Igoumenitsa or Patra with minoan or anek, or Superfast ferries (www.ferries.gr)

There is Bari-Patra with agoudimos lines or endeavour lines (the ship are the Ionian King and Queen) you can book on www.ferries.gr

And the last possiblity is from Brindisi, with maritime way, Blue star ferries or agoudimos lines, you can also book on www.ferries.gr

Ancona to Patras would be the main route, Anek, Superfast & Minoan. Further from Rome, you can do the Bari/Patras crossing with Superfast or Brindisi/Patras with HML. You would then have to bus/train across to Athens.

I just had a brief look at LCCs in the area.. there seem to be 2, Volare & alpieagles, but neither do Rome/Athens unfortunately. The schedule airline rates seem pretty high for such a short trip. If you can get to venice, there is a Venice/Athens route with alpieagles, but €290 on 5 Aug.. ouch!

Take an Ancona ferry and write a review

Pam

yes, PamM has right, the best way, I think you should travel from Ancona, here are the best ferries for this line:
you have the choice between Minoan lines:
-Olympia Palace
-Europa Palace

Anek lines:
-Olympic champion
-Hellenic spirit

Superfast Ferries
-Superfast XI
-Superfast XII
-Superfast V
-Superfast VI

Really, I can't give you an advice about these ship, all are great and modern.

Thank you all! After I realized how long the ferry ride will take, plus the time and cost of getting to/from ports, I booked us non-stop flights on Alitalia that came out to be E140 per person all inclusive. Thanks again.

Dmitriy

PS: We will be doing a 7 day cruise on Louis' Perla out of Athens to the Greek islands and Istambul. I know that the ship is not up to American standards and tastes, but I could care less about the ship, food, or entertainment, as we will have no sea days and will see some of the most amazing sites on Earth

That's a good rate Dimitry and door to door, bar a metro trip.. much better.

You will have a great time on Perla, a super itinerary.. as you say the ship doesn't matter much with all those ports, and just needing the bed for the night Look forward to hearing about it on your return.
