First I want to thank Onno Heesbeen for making an excellent original to work from.
Here is loveboat rendering with a stretch of 2 lifeboat modules. It was not easy since I could not make a pure vertical cut. It is done in 2zig-zag sections. So not too look too stretched I extended back the forward penthouse which houses the HVAC plant too. The extra space willneed extra capacity so it is functional as well as aesthetic.

On 1 April 1974 that year while on a cruise from New York to San Juan, a technical fault caused the propulsion machinery to shut down. The ship was disabled and it was not until 3 April that the Sea Venture, a Flagship Cruises vessel, arrived to assist. The passengers were transferred and tugs were hired to tow the QE2 back to Bermuda. Subsequent repairs meant that the Easter cruise had to be cancelled.

Not quite. Easter fell on April 14 in 1974. The following cruise that was cancelled would have been the Easter Cruise. QE2 returned to sevice on April 16 in time for her scheduled eastbnound transatlantic crossing.

From the airplane's perspective, the seas look calm, but you can see how big the waves really are compared to the tenders; I'm sure it was not a smooth ride!
The last time I saw 'Sea Venture' she was the Pacific Princess and I was coming off a cruise on the Carnival Legend. As we sat eating breakfast on Lido deck aft and the Love Boat slipped behind us into her dock, her little funnel with the Sea Witch was all that was visible above the CL's deck. Man oh man did she look small.

I remember reading about this event, and many of the Sea Venture's passengers were obviously ashore in Bermuda when this happened and were quite distressed to see their ship sailing away to help the Queen, not realizing that she would be returning. Imagine sitting on a beautiful Bermuda beach, not a care in the world, and then looking up and seeing your ship sailing away....
