Once again i have placed on my site 4 little movies.
This time frome the second visit of the m.s. Maasdam to Rotterdam in august 1996. This time she was an real Dutch ship and she was home. HAL desided to reflag there ships (only the Veendam was not reflagged) to the Dutch flag. On that second visit the ship was officially retflagged to the Dutch flag. Therfore H.R.H. Princess Margriet and here husband Meester Pieter van Volhoven visit the ship that day. Also the thene Lord major of Rotterdam Bram Peper and former HAL president Kirk Lanterman was attending this occasion.

To see the 4 movies go to
NASM 1873 Movie Page.
To see the Princess and some horn blowing movies.

Have fun greetings Ben.

Good movies, Ben, but those horns would have driven my crazy had I been watching from the dock or one of the smaller boats. The Captain certainly was having fun blowing them. Wonder who the Captain was on that voyage. I couldn't make out who it was from the movie.

Hi Diane.

I don't no who was the Captain that call.
The horn blowing was fun. We sail along the Maasdam up to Vlaardingen. And where ever the Maasdam was bid farewell with ships horn ore car horns blowing she great back and sounded here horns. It was fun and the bridge officers and captain seemed to have fun to.

I beleive this visit and the first visit in 1995 (she was the first HAL cruiseship after 22 years that made an call to Rotterdam) Dith magic to the HAL board it seems that the love affair frome the site of the HAL directors was refreshed. The love affair frome us Rotterdammers proved never died and was still warm we love Holland America Line.

I hope to post some little movies frome here first visit. It was an madhouse that day. She was docked at the Parkkade. Whene she depart the Royal Marine band played and thousants of poeple where sending here off.

Greetings Ben.

It seemed as though the horn had 2 notes that could be played individually.

Does Maasdam have 2 horns?

Maasdam is a very graceful ship, I hadnt really seen much of her before. Her bow is very sleek too.

Here is the clip that shows Maasdam to have 2 distinctive notes on the horn.

If you wind to the end to 2:39 minutes, it will show you what we are talking about.
