I read on another site that Carnival plans to have the wreck of the Costa Concordia righted in one piece and then have the hulk towed to Genoa.

I wonder if the ship will be stripped there before being sent to scrap or if there are plans for a rebuilding. The damaged ship should make quite an entrance in Genoa.

If the side laying on the rocks is penetrated there is no way to get it afloat. Pumping the water will just recirculate.

From what I have seen, it will not be so much that they are just pumping the water out, as fixing the damaged on the port side and then using inflatible devices on the starboard to right her.

Anyone here find any new pics or info about the Concordia? After the initial wave of info it seems like everything had died down and nothing is being updated anymore.

Can't say this was unexpected given the nature of media outlets but I'm still a bit surprised at the silence lately.

If Smit is awarded the salvage contract I would expect they will have regular updates on their website the same as they have for other operations. Here is a link where they chronicle the removal of the fuel
