I agree Joe, great grabs on the transit. Hard to believe that was a Carnival ship, then Costa.

It is very odd to see a passenger vessel passing through the locks with almost no one on deck, instead of the crowded masses normally seen!

Ocean Dream will be heading to the Pacific Ocean for her crossing to Japan for her first Peace Boat round the world voyage. She is due to sail from Yokohama on the 8th May 2012 .

Compared with the word ' Peaceboat ' on the hull of ss ' The Oceanic ' her Peace Boat name letters seem to be a lot thinner.

One crew member of Ocean Dream told me that Peaceboat will change Oceanic for Ocean Dream. I mean, Oceanic will be back to Pullmantur, it will be returned to their owners (remembering that Oceanic was just chatered).

There's the possiblity of the ship, operates in brazilian waters, for CVC, or even for Pullmantur somewhere. Although, the more likely is really scrap her.

She certainly lacks the graceful lines of OCEANIC.

Having been built in Denmark and entering service for Carnival Cruises in 1982 as the ' Tropicale ' her original funnel was removed when she was transfered to Costa Cruises in 2000.

She was then fitted with a Costa style funnel and renamed ' Costa Tropicale '.

She then went to P & O Australia in 2005 and sailed as the ' Pacific Star ' before being sold to Pullmantur cruises in 2007.

Yes, you is right. Oceanic was sold. I was thinking on something like a 25 years charter, with the option to buy in the end, but she was really sold. What he said to me don't make so much sense, so.

Could the Ocean Dream charter contract include the devolution of Oceanic?

Her funnel looks like the Costa Victoria one.

But her's is a single piece, while the Victoria one is double.

When new, Tropical was an intersting mix of new old and new w/her glass-enclosed promenades. Looks like a small portion of her angled Carnival funnel remains at the forward section of her vertical Costa stack.

Oceanic was engineered as a world travel ship in any type of weather. Tropicale was designed as a Caribbean cruiser. Can she provision and have the fuel range for an uninterrupted trans-Pacific voyage?

The Holiday class ships took quite a beating down under in storms the Oceanic would laugh at. Tropicale can take an occasional storm, but can it take the pounding the Oceanic could?

In regards to accommodation Oceanic has excellent space planning, Tropicale except for the promenade pinch point, is good too.
