Ships at sea would barely notice a tsunami--since most of the force moves deep along the ocean bottom, on the surface it only passes as a ripple, maybe one foot high. This is not to be confused with a "rogue wave."

When the tsunami reaches the shallow waters of a coastline is when it becomes apparent.

At the time the waves hit Japan any cruise vessels would likely have been in port. Any idea whether or not any ships were docked in the region?

Princessa Daphne sail to Yokohama morning 12-March.
But it can't enter Tokyo Bay.
Uraga channel Pilot service stop now.

web page

I was going to see in the morning.
But public transport stopped, I could not come home last night.

I'm still staying in my office.

QM2 has passed Nagasaki.

This is unlikely to become clear for tsunami warning.
Consideration for the safety of other vessels in harbor.

Hi Ken

Hope you manage to get home safely.

My thoughts are with all those that have lost friends and family in the earthquake and tsunami.
