The Caribbean cruise tourism industry has been dealt a major blow after one cruise liner announced that it is pulling out of the region next summer.

Royal Caribbean International says that it will reposition its ship from the Caribbean to Europe in 2012.

The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) says it understands that repositioning is a normal course of business within the cruise sector, particularly during the summer months.

But the CTO is worried about how much this will impact on the already struggling summer cruise business in the region.

The organisation says it is already taking measures to ensure that the Caribbean remains a highly desirable cruising destination.

Huh? This post and article are very vague. I don't believe that Royal Caribbean will be pulling it's entire fleet out of the Caribbean during the Summer any time soon. Perhaps the article is talking about one particular ship to one particular island but it doesn't specify.

My understanding is ALLURE and OASIS will be year-round Caribbean cruise ships for several years to come. As part of Royal Caribbean's deal with Port Everglades for Terminal 18, they have guaranteed a certain amount of yearly passenger traffic. I believe the only way to accomplish this is by keeping ALLURE and OASIS based in Port Everglades year round.

I have not commented in a long time, but the Serenade OTS is going to Northern Europe in 2012.

It's definitely not the whole fleet.. Explorer of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas sail out of Bayonne and Baltimore, respectively, and sail to the Caribbean year round.

I've just re-read the post and the BBC article--it's only one ship being repositioned, not the whole cruise line. Not such a big deal in the larger scheme of things (unless of course it's your own island that ship happened to call at every week.)

yeah find out it not the whole fleet which i found strange in the first place ,but as Corey said its gonna be the Serenade OTS. Great that means we down to just one RCI ship Adventure OTS. At some point we had four ships of RCI calling every 1 to 2 weeks Legend, Empress, Adventure and Serenade, the Adventure and Serenade we also rotated during the off season now we have found our way down to 1..Fantastic!
