Royal Caribbean actually treats this one large space as three different dining rooms, each with it's own name, entrance, and dedicated galley. This is the way it has always worked on the Voyager and Freedom Class ships. Your cruise card states which dining room and table you are assigned to, and what deck the entrance is on. This way you don't have tons of people trying to enter on one deck. It's an excellent system. You get the grandeur of a beautiful three level room, but the operating efficiency of three smaller dining rooms.

In regards to the noise, I was concerned about this as well. Turns out it's never been a problem in any of the multilevel dining rooms I have enjoyed. That includes the 3-level dining rooms on QM2 and RCI, and the two level dining rooms on many other lines like Carnival, HAL, and Cunard.

Interestingly enough, the dining room I remember being most noisy was on INSPIRATION. It was one level with a raised floor in the center, a low ceiling that was mostly metal, and some marble flooring. It was VERY loud!

It's hard to say how concerned they are. Yes, I'm sure RCI would love all the cruises to be a sell-out, but times are tough and early December happens to be one of the slowest times of year. RCI has already stated they are not going slash prices to rock bottom like some other lines just to fill ships. Yes they will discount, but with limits. The good news is that all the highest priced suites on OASIS are sold out almost entirely through 2010. Of course this is where any cruise line receives the highest yields, and in the case of OASIS the suites were priced very high (I thought). Too high for me, which is why I opted for a standard balcony. Even standard cabins on OASIS are substantially higher than the competition, so RCI is receiving good yields on everything they are selling. There has been no bargain basement discounting on any OASIS sailing.

The other positive is that OASIS is no doubt the most efficient ship in the fleet, and I'm sure the break even capacity is lower then the rest of the fleet. OASIS can probably sail below full capacity and still make a profit. Another positive is that on a ship like this, a prototype, it's probably better it's not full. It gives RCI a chance to streamline and prefect the onboard operation, while providing a better onboard experience for the first customers. There is a going to be a lot of word of mouth promoting from these first cruises, and it's important everyone come away feeling very positive about the experience. As Gordon mentioned, RCI also holds out a certain percent of cabins on the first cruises to provide a service buffer.

I'm not sure how many other mass-market new ships are sell-outs on their first full revenue cruise either. I know QM2 ended with space open towards the end, and I have to wonder how many of Carnival's, NCL's, HAL, and Princess inaugural sailing's are a complete sell-out. In the past inaugurals were always a sell out, but it's a different world today. With a combination of so many ships entering the market and a very poor economy, I just don't know if this is the norm anymore.

I know I shouldn't mention another site, but check out the one that has the initials CC. They have an excellent three part photo series on OASIS. The more I see of the ship, the more I say WOW and I am in awe. The ship reeks of quality, style, attention to detail, and yes, innovation. I'm just blown away and more impressed the more I see. I literally can't wait to get on this ship. If I had the time off from work I would be booking the inaugural, but unfortunately that is not possible. Oh well, January will come soon enough.

One of my favorite spots so far (among many), is Dazzles. Wow is this club elegant and sophisticated. Three levels, massive windows overlooking that aft area of the ship, and a big band. This looks more like a NY or Vegas supper club then a cruise ship lounge.

Bravo RCI!!! You deserve all the accolades coming your way for making this amazing ship possible.

You're drinking some funny Kool-Aid! With the antique car, metal creatures coming out of the floor, multi-colored floor tiles and LED lanterns she smells like a Carnival ship. Can anyone confirm if the parkview balconies have dividers? It looks as if they do not.

The Oasis smells nothing like a Carnival ship. Guess you weren't looking at the same pictures the rest of us were. Did you even look at the pictures over at CC?

Central Park, Boardwalk, and the Standard ocean view will have dividers. They are just all open for maneuverability of workers while she is still in the shipyard.

I've sailed on many Carnival ships. That look nothing like Oasis. Oasis is on a whole different design level.

Not everyone has an eye for design. I think some people group everything that doesn't look like Princess or Cunard into the same bucket.

To my eye, Royal Caribbean ships, including Oasis, are as different as night and day to Carnival. I realize that perhaps not everyone can see that.

I think Dazzles looks lovely, and its a venue that doesn't seem to have received too much publicity so far. There seems, on the face of it, quite a resemblance to the Manhattan room on NCL Epic, although that is dining as well as dining.

Funny you say that - when I saw that series of pics w/the antique car, I too, thought of Carnival right away-but only because of the car...I am pretty confident that the similarities will end there...one car does not a copy make.

Glad to see RCI is still on top of its game.

Well I don't start my view on Oasis. As I do with AL new vessels. Wish here happy sailings and a safe journey.

I'm just curious, why does the antique car make you think of Carnival? To my knowledge Carnival has never had an antique car as part of the decor. Royal Caribbean has had one ever since Voyager of the Seas. There has always been one parked on the Royal Promenade because it's supposed to resemble a street scene.

Ever since my April 17, 1998 cruise onboard Ecstasy (which was arguably my least favourite cruise on so many levels)...the one thing I recall was the antique Rolls Royce on the starboard interior gallery. I found apic of it here from a photo sharing website.

http://family.webshots.com/photo/2608707260095430378gPPwyH

While I recall seeing one on Voyageur...I forot about it until just now...the one which always sticks w/me is the one on Ecstasy. The colours of the lights etc in the pics shared earlier - just took me back to that cruise right away.

Thanks. That helps to explain it a bit. I've sailed on ECSTASY and I totally don't remember that. Perhaps I have tried to block out the entire ship.

That was HOLIDAY. CELEBRATION had a gazebo. Both were used for the late night (1:30am) mini-buffet for the party crowd. I remember those well but not the car on ECSTASY.

As I mentioned before, RCI has had an antique car parked on the Royal Promenade since Voyager of the Seas in 1999. It's become somewhat of an RCI tradition.

Actually the CELEBRATION had the New Orleans trolley car (the gazebo was on JUBILEE.) Just nitpicking, but I was on those three ships every weekend for years, and the decor and fittings have burned themselves into my brain!

There is something about Oasis I've just not been able to figure out...until now. Her exterior look unfinished. Here's what I mean. The Viking Crown/Loft Suites area looks incomplete, and so do the balconies. On earlier RCI ships these glass areas are smooth, tinted dark, and offer a sleek appearance. On Oasis the frame between the glass are painted white, the balcony rails are clear, and the overall appearance is one of scaffolding and clutter. This is especially evident on the upper pool decks, the solarium, and the Viking Crown. Consider the dark, sleek, tinted glass on Radiance versus Oasis:

Thanks Rich. I've cruise on all three of these sisters and I guess they are starting to run together. For certain I remember the bus on HOLIDAY!! My cruise on JUBILEE was an RSVP cruise and most of it is a blur ... although I remember having a lot of fun! I wasn't exactly looking at the decor of the ship on that cruise.

I was thinking the same thing, but also couldn't put my finger on it...

Thanks.

Radiance Class is still the sleekest and most cohesive-looking group of large-ship vessels afloat today, in my opinion. Not only that, they're beautifully designed on the inside as well.
