Seatrade Insider reports that Silversea has not yet finally decided whether the ex-WORLD DISCOVERER is to be called SILVER DAWN.

"Silversea Cruises’ new expedition ship, currently undergoing an extensive renovation at Fincantieri’s yard in Trieste, will set sail on June 12, 2008 from London on an inaugural season of voyages focusing on polar adventures.
Sailing first to the Orkneys, Shetlands, Faroes and Jan Mayan, the expedition ship will then tour the Arctic Circle including Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland for the summer. Following this, the ship will reposition to South America, including the Sea of Cortez and Antarctica for autumn and winter voyages. It will then position to French Polynesia for a season of cruises.

Speaking in London last night Silversea’s David Morris, evp worldwide sales and marketing, said the new ship’s name will be announced in the ‘next week or so’ and he would not be drawn on whether Silver Dawn (reported earlier by Seatrade Insider) was the final choice.

Trudi Redfern, Silverseas’s svp sales and marketing UK, Ireland and Middle East admits the ship’s inaugural season is being introduced to the market late, ‘sales brochures will be out soon’ but says ‘the initial main target will be our Venetian Society members (Silversea’s loyalty club) whom we think will be drawn to sample this new adventure.’

She anticipates the maiden voyage will carry mainly Brits, ‘which is the company’s market leader in growth globally’ she remarked. Morris reported, ‘UK business has increased 27% in last two years and the number of UK agents working with Silversea has grown from 250 two years ago to 1,600 today.’

The new ship will be named in Monte Carlo in early June before heading for London."

I think SILVER DAWN is an excellent name!

So do I.

Although I also think Silver Venture would be appro.

I do wish they would hurry up, I am itching to see what they are doing with this one, partly because if they ship looks good I am going to be booking a trip on her very quickly. I like Silversea alot (bar the outside of their ships which are nothign to write home about a real shame) they really do offer a good package, this new addition could turn out tobe my favourite - unless all they end up doing is Artic, Anatric and Bora Bora which would be tragic given all the really exciting places they could go wiht a ship like this.
