Just wondering what anyone's real life experience has been with this ship?

My parents are booked for the 15 April sailing from New Orleans to Vancouver and I wam wondering what peoples feedback is on the ship itself.

Previously they have sailed with Cunard/ Sea Goddess/ Celebrity and Uniworld. They understand the differences in terms of the experience - I am wondering more about the quality of that expereince.

I sailed on her two years ago on a repositioning cruise and I thought she was great! I have sailed with many cruise lines like Princess, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Costa et al, and the service comparatively on the Norwegian Sun was fantastic. The ship was very clean, there were not a lot of lines for services and the buffets were very good. As far as the ship is concerned, I thought she was just the right size. I don't really like sailing on the mega cruise liners as they are over crowded and quite garish. The Sun was easy to navigate and you could find the lounges, restaurants an the way to your stateroom very easily. There were really no surprises with this ship. The only downside to my experience, and it's really a minor issue, was the freestyle dining where you are charged for dining at a particular restaurant on board. My wife and I made reservations at the all you can eat sushi restaurant and it was something like $20 each and by the second helping we were full. To me, it really wasn't worth the money for the experience. We preferred to dine in the traditional dining room that was included in our fare and we found that the meals served were outstanding. Other than that one personal issue, I would definitely sail on the Norwegian Sun again. I hope your parents have a wonderful voyage.

I ap;preciate the response and thank you. While it is not what they are used to - it is what they have chosen - so I can only hope their cruise is as enjoyable as was yours.

Of all the ships repositioning through the canal to the Pacific Northwest, this would probably be my last choice, but then I do not like the cruise line at all anymore. Why would they not pick one of the other major lines? Better than the Queen of Esquimalt for sure!!!

Honestly as long as your having fun and enjoying the ship going through the canal on any like would be fun. Doesnt make a difference the ships go through the same canal.

Norwegian Sun is now the ship on which I have sailed more times than any other. I have no complaints about her, and I've always had a good time -although that is in large part also due to the fact that I'm always sailing with the same group of long-standing cruising friends.

When I was last on her in December 2006, there were a number of aspects in which she was showing signs of wear. But these may have been fixed in the recent drydock. Certainly, one previous time cruise (either October 2003 or October 2004) she was looking so good I commented on it, and then discovered that she had just come out of drydock then.

I thought that the NCL product declined somewhat between October 2004 and December 2006, and there are some things which are definitely no longer as good as they were (eg the Sports Afloat thing has been discontinued). But the ship seems to remain a pretty happy place and one on which a great cruise can still be had.
