Later we found out from one of the Officers, that it was because there had been a bomb threat on one of the ships docked in the port. I can't remember which ship it was, but believe it was a Carnival ship.Apparently nothing was found as the ship left later in the afternoon.
There are too many idiots out there!.

Hamburg was renamed Hanseatic in 1973 and renamed Britannic for the 1974 film 'Juggernaut'. She became Maxim Gorkiy in 1975.

Yes, she did not become Maxim Gorkiy until after the movie was completed. And Britannic was on a line voyage in the movie and nowhere near San Juan. Of course, anyone watching the movie knows that Omar Sharif's wooden acting alone will prevent the ship from sinking even if the bomb blasts out the bottom of the ship.

The guy who phoned in a bomb threat to Cunard's New York office saying there was a bomb on QE2 while she was in mid-ocean in the early 70's stopped laughing when he was caught and given a stifff prison sentence.
