Well, what is better? These new ships will have much more room per passenger so that seems to be better. I think we can expect just more choices in public rooms because of the bigger size. And, these ships will not be designed by the big players in the market so we can look forward to a totally new design and that's a good thing too.

Looks nice. I do see similarities to Crystal Serenity. I look forward to seeing better renderings.

Shall we begin the name game?

Marina
Regalia
Aquatica

I'll give credit to Oceania for not having the same boring ship names as the rest of the industry.

Thanks Joe for the enlarged picture of the rendering.

It looks like she will not get a wrap around promenade deck...

One word : wow !
From what can be seen on this rendering, it seems that those vessels will really look great !
A real bow, a nice stern, some well balanced lines... Can we ask for more (except for the liners die hard fan a replica of the Titanic, maybe ) ?
Of course it's just a rendering, but I think we have here the best looking newbuilts for a very long time !

Good looking ship. Well proportioned. Probably one of the best for a while.

Maybe I'm missing something here but from the renderings of exterior she looks very plain, ordinary, and uninspired, boring. Vaguely reminds me of the 'plainess' of the Paul Gauguin's exterior.

But like I've said it before, (apparently, I have been told, this is what unattractive people say about themselves), its what's on the inside that counts.

Anyway, the AidaDiva looks more interesting...

Hopefully the new ships will have open bridge wings to match the earlier R ships. They look so much better with them, enclosed bridge wings really give ships a bug eyed appearance and, from people I have spoken to, ships officers generally like open wings better than enclosed ones.

It's hard to think of a ship built in recent years with open bridge wings. Can anyone name one?

I remember when Carnival's newbuilds in the early 80's had closed bridge wings--it was considered so strange and unusually. After all, Carnival's ships were not sailing anywhere cold that would require a closed bridge. Like everything else Carnival does, the closed wings were chosen for their cost effectiveness--bridge equipment protected from the elements lasts longer.

Yes, Crystal Serenity immediately came out of my mind when I saw the rendering of the new buildings.

In fact I am a little bit disappointed because I expect the new buildings' exterior will have some innovations.

This design looks worse than the one shown in the press release.

That rendering is not accurate and is just a colorized (and outdated) technical rendering that the folks at Y&S and Deltamarin have not "massaged" to give the vessels their final exterior appearance.

These renderings look like the MSC ships - shoe boxes that just happen to have bows pasted on the front.

Tim: With the higher speeds, you will be able to retire those dolphins that were giving Regatta a speed boost during my crossing last year. They've earned a pension, by now I should think.

Looking forward to sailing on the new ships. Hope I make it!

I hope with the bigger ships that it is still the intimate country club where the staff knows the names of all of the passengers.

I never met the QM2 cruise director but could write a book about the stories we shared from Shani from the Regatta cruise director.

This rendering looks kind of like the Grand Class to me. Mostly the bow.

I like the renderings (better than e.g. the renderings of the new Seabourn ships ) but with all respect - they finally do not show that much. It is very difficult for me to see similarities to ships named above - they are not more similar to the ships mentioned above than most modern cruise ships are somehow similar to each other. The renderings look like a contemporary cruise ship with balconies - nice - but still vague - which is fair enough at this stage.

Nevertheless, I guess the cardinal question in this case is whether these new ships will feature a similar interior style than the R-ships or not. Let's see.

(although I have to admit that features on the exterior (or the lack of) on the R-ships were the prime reason for me not to even consider Oceania up to now - this has changed )

I am fairly certain you are going to see more contemporary decor, but still on the traditional side. Oceania inherited the R-Class decor and it has served them well, but I doubt we will see their new ships with that same Edwardian style.

Ernst, you don't know what you are missing, especially on the crossings

I am sure that Oceania is nice - from what I heard it actually seems that Oceania is very nice - but I want at least one unobstructed forward facing open deck. (....maybe I am allowed bring some tools to remove some of the glass? )
