some sad news from my side: After long negotations until the last possible moment, m/v ODESSA has finally left the port of Odessa on December 21st 2006 and passed the Suez Canal on January 6th. She is currently heading to a scrap-yard in Bangladesh, after her engines were fixed during drydock in Odessa last month and she was renamed SYDNEY.
After all, the cooperation with Antarktika was very difficult, not to say almost impossible for us. We had placed new hopes into it in November when the ship was transferred to a Broker in Riga who was very helpful and cooperative, even ready to assist financing the project. But as time was running away, two potential German operators were not able to conclude a charter-contract and we had to give green lights to the broker to sell her to the scrappers.
I had really hoped that we could reach something better with this ship after all these years in lay-up. She still had lots of potential, inside she was almost new !Anyway, I would like to thank all those people who assisted and supported us with our plans and also I would like to say Thanks to the entire maintenance crew which was oboard in Naples as well as the technical crew, which was onboard in Odessa, including both captains, to maintain my baby the best way they could !
bye, ODESSA !

I've been away from here for a while, but I just had to come to say how very sorry I'm for you, I still remember how keen you were of her already years ago and we all hoped for the best for the Odessa. Really sad news for the beautiful lady!
Kind regards,Aleksi
I share this feeling with you, because the ODESSA was unique, and her funnel design was simply impressive...
Quite sad because she could sail for one of these "new" expedition companies such as G.AP. Exploration, Phantom Expeditions, North Expeditions,etc...
Patrick, do you have a picture of her with the name SYDNEY????
That's a great name, because the last SYDNEY was operated by Lauro, and it is a nice tribute of her...
A fan @ Madeira from the beautiful Odessa

Sorry to hear the news. ODESSA is a gorgeous ship from the outside, and I bet even better with all the work put into it.
