You can't see it because it's behind Freedom, but Genesis has actually got easyCruise One mounted on one of the lifeboat davits.

I just took the image above and put the in front of each other. I did not check the scale but it looks reasonable - you may forgive me as I just invested five minutes and not halve a day

- I also hope that the copyrightholders of these images forgive me....

On Akers site it shows the Navigator of the Seas as being 237 feet tall. The Genesis is only 240 feet if I ready correctly. Not much difference in height.

Genesis hides her extra tonnage well. She does not look as big as I would have expected a 220,000 gt ship when compared to FOS and QM2.

Perhaps Genesis is hiding her bulk in her beam. From what I've read she will be 19' wider than QM2. We have only seen the side elevation of the ship--could RCI be hiding the real innovation? Will their plan be for something like the Ultra-wide concept developed by Kaverna-Masa a few years ago?

Isn`t the Voager class (& the Freedom class) already a version of this ultra wide concept? They just decided to have an enclosed promenade.

While I can't say I'm thrilled to see the tonnage race escalate this far (and so soon), I am quite interested in what may be one of the only genuinely new designs to emerge in the near future. I do see a strong resemblence to the Voyager class, but there are some differences just from what I can spot and all of Royal Caribbean's talk about how radical and futuristic Genesis will be makes me wonder even more if Fairsky may be right about it being similar in concept to the ultrawide. The faintail-type deal at the stern might support this, because after all, in these days I doubt the primary concern of the cruise line is aesthetics. This could be where the "split" begins. Then again, chances are I'm just overthinking this, the only innovations Royal Caribbean is speaking of in the press release are likely to be more previously unheard of (in the cruse industry) amenities.

Also I must mention a thanks to Thad for posting the comparison image of the three latest classes of RCI cruise ships.

Fairsky, thanks for posting the Ultra-wide concept image. I immediately thought of this when I saw Genesis’ specs, in particular her beam (which to me is moulded breadth and not beam at bridge-wing tips). The open promenade is a distinct possibility, but can Genesis reach the 220,000gt mark by having so much open-space? Regardless, it does seem like the two designs have some similarities (some pointed out by Commodore). Anyway, we all know the juicy bits are still to come and I don’t think RCI will want to give Carnival to many ideas by releasing them too early.

I'm wondering if Genesis is a further evolution of this concept with the Royal Promenade under a glass roof running most of the length of the ship and opening out onto a fantail at the stern. It may be towards the lower section Decks 4-8 or 9) between two "towers" of hotel block with a series of bridges, and glass elevators crossing between and rising up to the top decks... The extra beam and the added interior volume of such a space would account for the minimal additional length, but MUCH greater gross tonnage... Also with promenades being internal, perhaps they don't see the need for an exterior promenade, as from the illustration, there is definately NOT one, likewise the concept image posted by Fairsky. You can just see the lifeboats hanging free on the sides...

Of course, at this point its ALL moot, because drawings lie. Especially this early in the game!

This should prove fascinating...
