Was in Dover last weekend and watched Constellation (gigantic waffle iron) and Saga Ruby (still perfect) sail.

Saw via Google a photographers site featuring Saga Ruby's interiors and I have to say I think she is the most stylish, understated, beautiful refit I think I have ever seen.

I saw pics of the refit as well. I was in HEAVEN! A beautiful classic ship with stunning, modern interiors. Saga did an absolutely fantastic job. Were I young enough to cruise on Saga the SAGA RUBY might actually be my favorite ship.

If you look at RUBY's interior pics, they may remind you a bit of QM2 .... much of the same style. Apparently one of the same designers worked on both ships. Frankly I think SAGA RUBY might even look better than QM2, and that is saying a lot since I love QM2. Certainly the exterior is better ... we are talking about a truly classic looking ship.

Just one problem .... how do I get onboard!!!???

she's still sailing when you reach the ripe

Believe me, I'm in no rush to get any older. It would be nice to sail on SAGA RUBY though.

True, but the traveling companion must be 40 years or older. I'm not 40 yet so I'm still up a creek without a paddle as they say.

I might take you up on that, in about a year and half when I turn 40.

I was lucky enough to tour both VISTAFJORD and SAGAFJORD when I was in my 20's. I fell in love with both ships, with a slight favor to SAGAFJORD. Now I'm thinking that I might prefer VISTAFJORD, at least in her new incarnation as SAGA RUBY.

I thought a link would be helpful:

http://www.louagie.be/photography/eng/body/maritime/sagaruby.htm

Very smart, so much more elegant than the dreck we get geared toward the American mass-market cruiser.

Under which law is SAGA operating ?
The European Convention on Human Rights (which isnot an EU convention, but one of the Council of Europe) actually prohibits discrimination on the grounds of (among other things) "birth". Age is birth related.

Age is such a crude factor, there are rowdy and unpleasant 50+, while there are very wellbred, welltodo and pleasant -50's. 50 is not even a legal term, like Minor/Adults.

And the interior of Saga Ruby is indeed fantastic.

I am afraid, but it is not a human right to be allowed to travel with a certain ship. She is privately owned , and e.g. also Clubs etc. are allowed to define who is allowed to become member and who not. This is not a "discrimination".

I still would reccomend SAGA to do one journey per year without such a strict age limit.

I like to join as somebody who loved to sail the Vistafjord / Caronia. Thank you, empressport, for sharing the pictures.
What do think about the new "view" restaurant? I guess I liked the old Tivoli more with its warm, dark colours.
Nevertheless I would appreciate to be allowed to sail her, too. There is not much choice left if one likes an elegant classic liner with a sophisticated atmosphere. May Saga listen to Ernst's recommendation of at least one non-age restricted cruise a year (ot two or three...).

Strange maybe, but I "hated" her as Vistafjord. I alsways saw her as a "cheap" copy of the Sagafjord, a ship not built to standards of her time - Remeber: The Royal Viking Star is one year older! (She has the much nicer layout, but sadly she has not been built to a high quality standard) - But now it seems that after the refit she is nicer than her sitster. Also most "classic" ships are gone now, which somehow "moved" her, "just" by having survived, to a more prominent position.

Of course not,
but even clubs etc can not illegally define who can become member and who not. When legislation will become more and more sophisticated, Saga will have to find other ways than this very crude way of discriminating.

To those who feel aggrieved that they cannot (yet) sail on Saga Rose or Saga Ruby, I have this to say.

I am 57, and so I am entitled to sail on a Saga ship - and I hope to do so in the not too distant future.

The Saga policy of providing holidays and services (not just cruises) to the over-50s is therefore not a problem for me and I saved a few pounds by switching my home insurance to Saga.

I shall be sailing on an adult (over-18s only) P & O ship in just over two weeks' time, and I shall be grateful that there are no noisy young brats around to disturb my peace (though there will no doubt be lots of annoying, moaning crumblies who I can choose to ignore).

I am disqualified by reason of age from booking a holiday with Club 18-30, but I have no intention of suing Club 18-30, I promise you.

Those who wish to cruise only in the company of the older (and wiser) generation have plenty of ships to choose from - just steer clear of Carnival.

Those who hanker to sail on the Ruby or the Rose will just have to be patient, and stop wishing their lives away.

she is alott more beautiful than i thought she would turn out to be. Very nice interiors, i particularly like the laser lighting effect on the wall in that restaurant/lounge.the green star lighting effect , i think that goes very well with the room. She is very cool looking and i also particularly like the pool area.....

What happens when you are too old for Saga? I think they go to P&O. I have met most of the grumblies, but like Greybeard I just ignore them.

Johan,

Saga is a organising travelling for seniors!

That is all. No discrimination at all!

Look into your papers or ask at travelagencies and you will find there are more organisations for seniors only!

Cruiseshipluver, Saga's market are the senior citizens and their whole cruise product is targeted to those above 50.

I don't get why many pick on us "young brats." Not all of us are loud and abnoxious. We are trying to have fun also - and on my previous cruises, I've noticed that we teens never bother trying to get the "elders" mad nor purposely ruining their time. Usually it starts with the elders giving us bad looks first. NO comment on the kiddies. I hate being sterotyped
