If there were one cruise ship (or ocean liner) in all of history that you could go back to and sail on, or one that you could save from the scrap yards and bring back to life, which would it be and why?

Titanic. I'd love to walk the decks of that ship while at sea, and stare up at those big funnels. I would like to "feel" the ship at sea, I've always thought that she had an interesting hull design. It would be fun to explore the depths of the Titanic or Olympic for that matter.

I also would have really enjoyed an Atlantic crossing on Queen Mary (1936).

There are too many!!!!

Probably the Nieuw Amsterdam 2 to see her Dutch Deco interiors (though I doubt I would be travelling first class) spending some time on Andrea Doria would be nice as well (I’m currently making a model of her so that’s why)

Does QE2 in her maiden modern 70’s look count as well?

Best, Onno

Of course, but then I'd like to do it again in Second and then again in Third, but perhaps in reverse order, so I could experience it all and the differences between the three classes.

One you probably have never heard of called the Great Britain. The single biggest advance in ship design and construction ever. Plus you can still walk her decks today.

There's a good point.

However I'd have to say I would like to sail on the Rex or Conte di Savoia in their prime. Big, Beautiful, and fast! A shame that like many ships their lives were cut short.

Hmmm. Had to think abou this one for a while.

Since you sort of asked two questions, I am going to give two answers.

If I could go back and travel on any ship I couldn't pick just one. I have narrowed it down to three...

1. Aquitania. Always loved her.
2. Ile de France when she sped to assist Andrea Doria.
3. And if I was able to take what I know now with me when I traveled back, I would definately want to be a passenger on Carpathia.

If I could bring one back? That's easy. The Queen Mary would be sailing along with QM2.

Make sure Queen Mary will be sailing on the good side of QM2, if she’s behind QM2 then she would be dwarfed and you won’t see her.

Ahhhh yes, of course. However, it supposedly got very stuffy and hot in that ship once they got down to the tropics. The First Class dining room was the only room aboard which had air conditioning.

L'Atlantique!
Steaming in tandem with an Eagle class!
Why?
A clever marketing could have l'A. shopping mall filled with Art Deco antiques, luring E. class passengers at each port!
Sorry mr Fain..

I would go to one of the following

1. Ile de France when she was saving the Andrea Doria
2. QE2 Maiden Voyage
3. Seawise University
4. Or the SS United States when she sailed for Hadley, Hawaii
