Secondly, as all of you can see from my profile, I'm from the Boston, Ma area. I am suppose to leave in less than 2 weeks for a cruise my wife and I have been planning and dreaming about for more than a year (Carnival Spirit, Vancouver to Hawaii). My problem (and I refuse to let my wife know this as she's freaked out enough) is I don't know if I can (or want to?) get on that plane in 12 days.

I'm sure part of the reasoning behind my fear and apprehesion is because 2 of the highjacked planes originated right in my own backyard and because my flight out of Logan is exactly like the type of plane they wanted (fully fueled, non-stop to Vancouver, BC), but as with the rest of the world....I can't let these animals do this to my wife and I!!! If I give in to my fears they win, right??

This is where I'm looking for everyone's help and reassurance. I'm sure there are alot more of you out there that are as apprehensive as I am...who may have a cruise coming up very soon that just doesn't feel as good to you as it did before September 11th.

Let's talk about it...our fears, our apprehensions. Let's hear some reassurances and words of encouragement from those long time traveling veterans who've been posting on the site for a long time.

I know how much reading everyone's thoughts, prayers and well-wishes for our country has done for me so far. Hearing some words of encouragement to get on that plane, go have a great time on that cruise and how safe everything will be will go a long way towards mending my mental state of mind.

I hope I am not thought of as selfish because of my request. I am really just scared and not afraid to show it (except in front of my wife).

A lot of people say that the safest time to fly is just after an accident. You can be rest assured that security will be extremely tight in view of what happened last Tuesday. We just cant take the chance of it happening again.

I'm also flying in a couple of weeks time and, although I'm apprehensive, there is no way I am going to cancel. I have just looked at the airline's site and seen that they are not allowing hand luggage. This shows how seriously we are taking it this side of the pond.

As someone who has lived in London for 28 years and have seen at first hand some of the IRA's handiwork I think that the last thing you should do is let them spoil your plans.

Go on your cruise. Enjoy yourself. i am sure you will have a super time.

I'm sure that in 2 weeks security will be a lot tighter all over the country, especially in Boston. However, you might consider driving to another airport. You could even stagger your flights, so that you aren't flying cross country in one flight. These suggestions are more for peace of mind than anything else.

I never have felt safer with armed soldiers patrolling the streets, rail stations, and back alleys plus no one f*cks up since they shoot first and ask questions later.

One is more likely to get T-boned by a SUV and killed going to the mall than by travelling by air or ship.

Chances of ketting killed by plane are 1 in 4 million, cruise ship: 3 passengers that I know of in 10 years: Achille Lauro.

On a ship one is more likely to get financially wiped out at the casino or pickpocketed in a Carribean tourist trap.

I saw the WTC burn in person from Newark New Jersey.

At the age of 10, I was on the Queen Anna Maria; now Topaz in NY Harbor seeing the WTC under construction. I may post the picture of me and the towers half built.

As I write this, I'm looking over at our luggage layed out across the living room as my wife and I started our "preliminary" packing for our trip. My mood is starting to brighten...our anticipation and excitment for our trip is returning!

I WILL GET ON THAT CRUISE SHIP
AND WE ARE GOING TO HAVE ONE HELLUVA TIME!!!

Jesse, you would not want to be in Britain. Any retaliation by the US on Afghanistan would most likely be orchestrated from the bases in the UK, as in previous 'confrontations'. Which is why in the UK we do not want any rash decisions made, as we will be in it as much as you.

The other day 2 heavy refuelling tanker aircraft took off from the local base, we thought something was up, but thankfully, it wasn't.

Bombing complete Countries and Cities is an other Crime!

If they are sure, where the searched People are and who they are, it is Time to kill them...

Better you should stay where you are - Canada would not be a safe haven.

I can empathize with you. My wife and I, sister-in-law and husand are cruising the Zenith Oct. 27th. The ship originally was scheduled to sail from NYC, but has been moved to Baltimore. My wife and I are "seasoned" cruisers and have flown numerous times, but our "in-laws" haven't done either. Their fear level was high before the NYC tragedy, and borders on hysteria now. I'm having trouble convincing them not to cancel, but I'm still not sure they will go.
My wife and I are certainly going, even though we are somewhat apprehensive. We refuse to allow homicidal maniacs to control our lives. Yes, we know there's a risk, but life MUSTgo on and we MUST NOT ALLOW tyrants to succeed. They have toppled buildings, but they have raised American resolve and patriotism to a peak. Take your cruise, enjoy life, but remember those who sacrificed to give us freedom.
