The recent issue of CRUISE TRAVEL says that Renaissance Cruises will revise the no smoking/no children policy on board the line's R-CLASS ships.

Do any insiders know what is going on here?

I've not heard anything about this.

However it sounds like they have lost bookings from families, smokers, and families that smoke! Do I feel a u-turn about to happen?

My understanding is that Ren is not planning on having any children's activities after Dec. 1 when kids will be allowed on the ships. I seriously doubt many parents will book on Ren if there are not things for the kids to do besides drive the parents nuts.
We leave in one week for our first Ren cruise so we will not have to deal with any kids yet. Kind of looking forward to that (BTW, I have 3 of my own so I'm not a kid-hater).

I suppose this is a sign of the times. There are several hotels which cater for adults only, so there must be a potential market for "adults only" cruises. As for "no smoking", I am in favour. I often find that smokers do not restrict themselves to the smoking areas, but only go into the smoking area to light up and then wander about other areas where smoking is not permitted.
