We went to Tall Ships Chicago a couple of weekends ago. Had a great time, visited about 6 of the ships. The next morning the news said that there had been about 600,000 people there the previous evening ("Venetian Night" with illuminated boat parade and fireworks).

Really great pics. I enjoyed them all. Often wondered if I would have been able to last out as a crew member on one of these beauties in their day?

For me, sail will always represent the real romance and challenge of the sea!

Thanks for posting those pictures! I had really wanted to go down to Chicago for the Tall Ships festival, but I had just returned from another trip and it didn't work out. I was however able to view a few of the smaller ships in Kenosha for their festival. Salty Sailor is right. People here post about how many of the new cruise ships lose the connection with the sea, from lack of windows or deck space or whatever. But if you seek a true experience of a ship on the sea this is by far the best way to get it. Sailing truly is the romance and challenge of the sea.

I was at the Tall Ships parade in New York several times, and loved seeing the huge sailing vessels! I have also been aboard the Bounty....I think they used that ship for the movie.
