Hi,
I was tasked to do a little decorating for an office promotion. The short of it: sales is getting a cruise for 2 if they make target at the end of 2007. Anyway, I have been trying to get posters to get the excitement up, but I'm having a heck of a time finding them. Carnival won't give us any until we purchase and every other cruiseline we contact says that they don't know what department I'd need to speak to- uh, ok-sales?
Does anyone know how I could go about obtaining posters with a cruise ship on it? Creuise line and destination doesn't matter.
Thanks!

If you are going to be working through a travel agency, why not ask them to get you some posters. They always seem to have a lot.

In the past I have asked travel agencies for old brochures to 'cut up' for 'school projects' and they have happily obliged. However they don't seem to hand them out as readily as they used to.. one often even has to ask to take a brochure, instead of just picking one up and walking out with it. But maybe if you ask for a poster for your child's school project [even if you don't have one], one agency might have something rolled up out the back gathering dust.

You can also on some cruiselines' sites download high res images, which you could have made into a poster yourself. Or done from any original photo and add a few words.

Yes, agencies are reluctant to hand out brochures. The reason being, and I know this all too well from experience, is that many people pop in, grab a brochure, and then go home and book on line.

Most agencies are happy to give out brochures (especially old ones) and posters if you're on the level with them. Tell them that your office is doing an incentive and you need some posters to fire everyone up about it. Give them your name and number and assure them that, when it comes time to actually book the trip, you'll be sure to come back,.....afterall, they're helping you out.

Before I entered the cruise business, I use to go to an agency and tell them flat out that I collect cruise brochures,..they were more then happy to load me up. One time, I went in asking about posters and, after going through their closet, they produced about six old Cunard prints of the QE2,...very cool!

It's my expereince that cruise lines are spending less and less money on marketing materials such as posters/ desk top displays. Personally, if my marketing dollars had to go to something to produce results - I would go with travel agent seminars/ fam trips/ VERY select trade shows. I speak with travel agents now and most posters and display materials they have are from Tourist Boards/ Coach Tour Operators - but very little from the cruise lines.

So instead of starting a new thread - I thought I would continue this one with what are your favourite cruise line posters (in your immediate collection)?

Mine are
1) Royal Viking Star sailing under the Golden Gate Brodge
2) The Biggest Week in the World - S/S Norway poster
3) QE2 - For Once in Your Life Live (with NYC and London on either side
4) Princess Cruises - firework display in Acapulco
5) Royal Viking...dark blue aerial view of one of the trio sailing...

and of course the "inaugural" posters of QE2 and Caronia from 1999/2000 as well as the 150th Legendary Quueens poster of QM/ QE and QE2.

Check Ebay of course, they have anything old or new and at great prices usually... This is just a suggestion, take it or leave it but I think it could be nice to put up a couple of old ocean liner posters, I mean it could be something interesting people might ask about them, then get to thinking more seriously about a cruise. I mean alot of those old posters are really great.

I looked on Ebay for my favorite poster and I was not able to find it. Its a painting of the Queen Elizabeth with the Queen Mary in the background. I think its from the late 1940s or early 1950s. There a big version of it near the entrance to the Queen Marys engine room.

I have a 3' x 4' or so version of the Queen Elizabeth poster box mounted and hanging on my wall. It looks quite incredible against the exposed brick...
