Has anyone, booked a single cabin, how many ships have any, and how much extra to the double occupancy price, can you expect to pay.

I think carnival still has some single cabins on their ships. Price wise i think they are just about the same as a normal interior cabin.

Carnival is useless for singles. the best ships for single cabins are fred. Olsen ships and the QE2 all of which have substantial numbers of proper single cabins as do the Saga sisters.

Surcharges for single occupancy of a double room range from 25% to an atrocious 100%....

Crystal, oily Seabourn and Hapag Lloyd have not yet been mentioned as having - if not single cabins - more friendly prices for single passengers. Sadly I noticed that Silverseas is charging 200% for some cruises.

I have been going through this drill ever since I lost my beloved wife.

Forget about "single" cabins. Just try to negotiate the best deal for single occupancy of a standard cabin. I did fairly well on HAL last year, and even better on Celebrity this year.

As others have pointed out, the prices range all over the map.

I do not want a "roomate" - and neither do you. I had roomates in college and in the Army and that is quite enough, thank you.

unfortunatly , QM2 does not contain any single cabin as might been expected from her as a true ocean liner
do notice that most if not all ocean liners did contain
single cabins (QE2 , Saga sisters , etc)
if we think about that a single passengers that book a regular (double in most cases) stateroom takes the place of 2 optional passengers who might have booked the same room and give the cruise line more profit so its kind of reasonable that cruise lines wiil take more (even if its 50% or 100%) of the regular price upon single passenger staying in a double stateroom
but the best soulotion for all sides is building ships with a limited amount of single cabins which the price of them will be much more cheaper

Pretty much every cruise I have ever been on was booked as a 'single'. I have booked everything from a 1A bunkbeds on Carnival to a SkySuite on Celebrity. I have also booked insides-to-balconies on Princess, HAL, and Cunard among others. If you are going on 'the cheap' book the lowest cabin and expect to pay 150%-200% of the regular double-occupancy rate. The best cruise line for pricing was Carnival and on occasions had deals to were singles did not have to pay the surcharge. This was usually off-season mid-Sep to early November. The worst cruise line I booked for pricing was RCCL. Most newer ships built in the last 15 years do not have cabins dedicated for singles with only 1 bed, but either 2 twins that may or may not convert or bunks.

There are occasionally 'no single supplements' offer about. Currently Marco Polo in Jan has the offer on for around Antarctica. Minerva II does as well for various sailings next year.

I got a good deal on an outside single cabin on the Carnival Victory in 2001. It was on the lowest deck, farthest forward, but I liked it - lots of space too.

Yep, on the Riviera Deck. Hardly any pitching, as the sea was pretty calm.

It is a pity that some cruise ferries operators sell their Christmas cruises through travel agents.
TA are not interested in cabin share(vital for single),
meals package upgrade(mini-cruises do not include food, a serious issue on a 3 nights Spanish cruise) and i still try to sail away at Christmas or New-Year with friends to save the cooking and tidying up(housewives knows what I mean;-)
It seems single travellers are more and more...singled out

Some ferries are actually quite well booked in general - I just failed to get a (reasonable) cabin on Color Fantasy

The AMERICAN QUEEN has eight single inside staterooms onboard. If you're interested in one of those you need to book early because they do sell out fast.

The AQ has been chartered by FEMA for use as a hotel in New Orleans until next March. But those single rooms would be perfect for the solo traveler when she heads up to St. Paul or Pittsburgh next year.

This can also be achieved when a cruise is offered on a "2 for 1" deal - so keep your eyes open for those

Some cruise lines also offer a Guaranty Share programme - where by you pay the double rate with the understanding that you MIGHT get a roomate - but if they don't pair you up - the cabin is yours for the double price. Of course if you DO get a roomate - you can always whine loud enough onboard and claim your Travel Agent never told you

I had a client do this once...ONCE. He got a roomate that SMOKED CIGARS! The client went to the 'Guest Relations Desk' (Hate that term) and asked about getting moved. The ship was sold out. He disembarked with full penalty rather than live with the smoker for 7-nights.

With Xmas approaching fast, I am now frantically searching the wekend press for offers.
Yes! QM2 is actually selling single cabins through Sovereign cruises....but for what market(I'm not retired yet;-).
Travelscope has an irresistible £249 for 10 days preXmas cruise to the med departing UK dec.11th.
This is however for a 3rd person sharing and the single rate is £750 if you read the small lines!
Wow! But it includes a pre-Xmas and pre-New Year dinner gala....

this company have single traveller offers, although the only cruise related ones are river boats.
however, to take the nile cruise as an example, the 'no single supplement' only applies may to august when you feel it may be too hot!

My favourite single cabins ever were those in the forward section of Canberra. Because they were the outermost Court Cabins, they were tiny - just enough room for the bed, a little dressing table under the window, a wardrobe and the door into the bathroom. But they were LOVELY.... and there was the Court Settee just outside for breakfast. And, as my surname is Court, I particularly appreciated having a Court Cabin.
