First let me say I have enjoyed reading the various postings on the board & find the info helpful. I am sure some of you will be able to assist me.. I have only cruised 4 times & all of those have been North America (Alaska, Hawaii, Carribbean & Mexico. I just received in mail advertisement for Oceania which appears to be very enticing offer. Both 14 and 10 day Mediterranean itineraries with a 2 for 1 and free air... I like the sounds of the 10 day including ports of Barcelona, Marseille, Monte Carlo, Florence, Rome, Naples, Valletta, & Athens. An ocean view state room for $2000 (US) per person seems like a bargain. ($400 less for inside). I would appreciate any input on Oceania & cruising the Mediterranean in November. Would you agree this sounds like a good deal? For comparisons I have cruised HAL, Princess, & NCL. Thanks for your help.

I can’t comment on the ship but the Mediterranean has some wonderful cities, many of which your chosen cruise visits. The Med should still be relatively warm in November.

This cruise should make a really interesting contrast to N. America.

It's a very good price indeed, lower than can be obtained from here; but it can be quite chilly & windy in the Northern Med come Nov time. This can be a bonus for all the sightseeing you may want to do, tourist crowds have gone and children in school. [Florence is a fair way from Livorno and will require a costly excursion, or do your own on the train, cheap, likewise Rome from Civitavecchia & Athens requires the Metro from Piraeus, easy & cheap, the rest are on the doorstep].

Returnticket for the train costs only EUR 9.00 and is valid on all public transport in Rome.

From Livorno to Pisa they sell only one way tickets. Buy two and validate one in Livorno and the other in Pisa on your return. Very cheap.

City sightseeing bus (hop on hop off) in Naples start at the square behind the castle close to the Stazione Maritma. Tickets for adults costs EUR 18,-- and is valid for two routes.
