OK, fist time on Princess cruises and first time with outside cabins. My parents and I are having a disagreement over which categories to choose from for our GRAND PRINCESS cruise. Would you guys take cabins E-101 to E-115 or cabin E-421?

Visual here.

Easy......421 isn't far from mid-ship, and near the elevators.....101-115 are all the way up front....bring your roller skates. E-421 is easily worth the few extra bucks to be near mid-ship!

Interesting choice... 421 is in a convenient location and looks out on lifeboats, the others are in an inconvenient location but have a "view" of sorts - of the promenade deck. I'd pick 421 - I don't like looking out over a deck and the others are very far forward on a long ship, but on the other hand, if you're looking at standard outsides, the best choice would be something on Plaza Deck.

They said that those outside cabins are higher up than the ones on the plaza decks plus all outside cabins are at the dame price from Yahoo Travel. The obstructed cabins are cheaper, but there are concerned about the lifeboats blocking the view. But from the deckplans, it seems like you can still see out of the left side, since there is a life raft. I think E-421 is a "treasure". Very close to the elevators and still have privacy and good view.

I don't know how accurate those are...

Keitaro, I am of the opinion that all cabins on modern ships are nice - even the cheapest ones!

O.K. we can argue about grades and locations, insides, standards and veranda's all day, but whaever they pick I'm sure that you will have a good time!

Don't forget to return and write a review for us.

Don't worry. The pre-cruise review has started! I am writing about the "roller-coaster ride" of planning!

We had E422 two yrs ago and it was fine. Close to elavators!! Push of a button and your poolside. As far as the obstructed view, you use your room to shower, sleep and change, dont worry about the view.

Sailed on Golden Princess and were in E111. We reported large banging noise. The answer given by the "Noise Engineer"?? was that they were aware of the problem and were "monitoring" the problem. We slept at the pool every day. Go to midship. Have a peaceful and noise free cruise.

Interesting. I was in E111 on GRAND (before GOLDEN even existed - they called her GRAND II then) and it was positively silent.

The sound insulation in our cabin on ZUIDERDAM was utterly pathetic; from cabin-to-cabin it was fine but you could hear everything in the corridor at the same volume whether the door was open or closed! Not helpful as a gaggle of young girls (maybe 7 or 8 years old) were running up and down the hallway screaming until something like 3AM . I guess their parents were next door, but they probably could sleep through it as I guess they're used to it at home! We're used to only hearing the creaking and hissing of the heating system or the whirr of the air-con at night, and the "bonbing" of the grandfather clock, so for us, it was a real pain in the, um, ears !

We were all the way forward on Main Deck (NOT the main deck; rather the lowest one - go figure) but this could have happened in the penthouse suites amidships and all the way up, so go figure.

The only ship-noise we've ever had was on the HORIZON in 4117, outside with porthole on the lowest deck... Specificially selected so that I could see what a porthole looked like as I'd never seen one before and was fascinated by the concept then (1995) ... Anyhow we could hear the machinery up on the bow when docking, but that was it. An "anchor suite" I guess, and preferable to a propellor suite if you ask me...
