Hello All. This is my first cruise, Carnival Triumph (3/8). My husband was unable to join us, so it is just me and my 18 yr. old daughter. We are flying into West Palm Beach and renting a car to Miami. Does anyone know which car rental agency has the closet drop off to the port? Or can you suggest a better solution? Thanks Cindi

Cindi,

An alternative to a rental car or taxi is the Tri-Rail train service from Palm Beach Airport to Miami. It's $4.00 one way.

You could probably get a transfer with Carnival from Miami Airport or take a cab to the pier from one of the other Miami stops.

May not be such a good option if you have lots of bags or want to get there quickly.

I would drive to MIA and get the car hire firm's free shuttle to the port, they all [well the majors] have them on cruise days. I believe Sheraton Biscayne Bay has a Budget drop off, but not sure if they then have a shuttle to the port or you would need a cab, probably latter.
Train looks like fun if you have the time, but still have to then get a cab, or a shuttle out to one of the car hire firm places

so more hassle with the luggage.

Avis has a drop off facility right on Dodge Island which is the place that all the Miami ships sail from. You can drive up to your ship and drop the luggage off and then return the car; or take the car to the Avis drop off location, and they will drive you right to the embarkataion location.

I should have added that on a recent cruise, we heard complaints from folks that had rented from Alamo. It seems that the shuttle service from their drop off location was very seldom, poorly organized, and they evenually had to take a cab to the ship in order to embard in time to have lunch. They said the few dollars they saved on the rental costs with Alamo was not worth the agravation, frustration and worry that their poor service caused. I have always had excellent service from Avis in Florida.

Grant, I believe that Avis drop off at Dodge Pier was closed after 911.

All the major car rental's, Avis, Hertz, have drop offs at the airport and they will take you to the pier.

I spoke to Avis, they have a shuttle from the airport. They told me to arrive at least an hour before I want to be at the port.

Budget told me they have a location on Collins Ave that is near the port.

They cost about the same. Any suggestions, on which one to pick?

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe Budget is much closer than Avis to the port. Which car return would be easier to find?
