My wife and I are planning an Eastern Carribean cruise in the middle of March, 2003. We love ballroom dancing. Are there any cruise lines that offer ballroom dancing as well as private instruction?

Don't know about for the Eastern Caribbean - but you CANNOT beat the ballroom dancing opportunities onboard either QE2 or Caronia! The floors are among the largest afloat and the passengers LOVE to dance...I have even see couples rehearsing w/ their boomboxes during the day only to dazzle by night!

Hope you find a ship that offers you the chance you're looking for!

Holland America are hard to beat when it comes to providing music for ballroom dancing.

Most times the ships orchestra are of the "Glenn Miller" style, but can switch to more up to date types quite easily.

bobandbrenda: If you go to search and look for ball room dancing, big band cruises, etc... You should find quite alot of info on the subject from some time ago. A person who used to post regularly was in to dancing (Ascendancy) was his user name. Maybe he is monitoring and will answer your post.

I haven't been on Caronia, but have been on Crystal Harmony, Royal Princess, and on QE2. For strict tempo ballroom dance, nothing afloat beats QE2. Dance floor in Queen's Room is 750 sq. ft in size, there is the QE2 Orchestra and a band which alternate days in Queen's Room, and a latin band in Yacht Club. Both orchestra and band play proper tempo ballroom dance music. On all 4 of our cruises on QE2 thus far, the dance instructors were Warren Smith and his wife. They have been finalists in latin dance competitions at Blackpool, and Warren is usually booked solid daily for private instructions with the ladies. On days at sea, there is also one hour group dance lesson. QE2 and Crystal Harmony have dance hosts who will dance with unaccompanied ladies, and thus the ladies are willing to come out onto dance floor and dance, which makes for better dance environment. On Crystal Harmony, there was also a couple who were former dance competitors and they were the instructors. Lessons are also very attractively priced, $35/half hour with Warren, and $60/hour on the Crystal. Because we enjoy ballroom dance, we don't go on any other ship now except the QE 2.

Can't help you with a March sailing, but there will be a terrific ballroom instructor on the 1/20/03 Celebrity Summit sailing.
