Hey-
Travelling on Disney Magic in August w/family of 5...kids ages 4 1/2, 6,7. Wondering if anybody has info on what to do in Cayman and Cozumel. Ships excursions even to beach run $250 for family of five. Any ideas on how to do it for less????

You can do the beach thing yourself much cheaper. Just grab a taxi.

Try this link. I read some good reviews on this beach in Coz on another site.
http://www.mrsanchos.com/

I copied this review:
Mr Sanchos

We went to Mr Sanchos in May and were very
pleased. Taxi was 16$ one way from dock
(although we shared a van for 28$ with another
Cruise Critic family). No shortage of return transportation when needed. There was no
cost to get in to Mr Sanchos, they just request that
you buy something there. We had lunch which was
great. Beach is FANTASTIC. Clean, beautiful sand
beach, gentle waves, not crowded. Might be more
crowded now, because of great press on this site.
Don't let the menu price scare you, some were in
pesos. Had 2 hamberger meals with fries and got
drinks and total bill was 13$us. Rented mat for
beach/water for 5$ for the day. Kids went on the
water trampoline for $4 for 2 hours and loved it.
We stayed 4 hours and wished we stayed longer.
Best beach on the trip. They also had a pool with
beautiful waterfall and clean changing areas/bathrooms. All in all, couldn't ask for a more
relaxing family beach day. This was not a big party
hangout, at least that day. We really didn't want that
anyway. The beach chairs are lousy, although I hear
they are the same everywhere. Hard molded plastic. You probably could have put the mat on
top and improved them some. We camped out under a great covered table near the bar and beach.

Both are great ports for going off on your own. If you haven't been to Coz in 10 years you're going to see a big change. It's more like a miny Cancun now but still it's great. Take a cab down to Chakanab and go swimming. It has some ruins you can walk through and even has a little miniature golf course. There's alot of other extras there, swim with dolphins but they're pricey. You can do a basic Chakunab run for MUCH less than $250. There's a restaurant there and the prices are pretty reasonable.

One way to save money on Grand Caymen is to eat on the ship. We found the food prices high and then coupled with the exchange rate it cost for 2 adults and a child's very un-inspiring lunch, over $50.
