I read a review of the Amsterdam that stated 90% of the male passengers wore tux's(the others wore dark business suits). We are going on the Panama canal cruise and are wondering if this is fairly accurate?

Have not cruised on HAL so don't know but this would be about right for P.& O ships for FORMAL nights. Informal and casual nights,the dress code is obviously more relaxed. Naked is not an option,spilled soup can be nasty!

I would say this about correct. I found a lesser percentage in Alaska, why I don't know but probably because you have to take clothes for warm, cold, & rainy weather as you never know what it will be like . Also the longer the cruise, the more tuxes.

Thanks Sympatico, I knew I could rely on your expertise re HAL! On our cruise to Bermuda on Celebrity, there seemed to be more of a mixture i.e. business suits and tuxs (and a few just... whatever). Perhaps it was because it was only a one week cruise.
Now that I have my husband all suited up, I am trying to convince him that he has to wear the appropriate shoes!

Your welcome Marbella - and don't forget the right socks - make sure they are black. We always laughed when we saw a very rich executive at our club all dressed up in his tux wearing "white" socks.

Hey Sympatico, Is this the case on the Noordam too??? We are going on the 14 day Southern Carriebean in Mar. 90% tux's!!!! I'm going to be one of the ten percenters I guess. Is there going to be anybody under 60 on this cruise do you think? Any families?

I would think the percentage might be a little less on the Noordam, but I really don't know. You will be fine in the 10% bracket - not to worry!
