The Minatocho Pier is composed of two berths, with total length of 520m to receive ships with 12 - 14 meters draught.The pier was constructed on reclaimed land next to former JNR Seikan Ferry Freight Pier.Foreign cruise ships and Asuka Ⅱ usually berth at the Minatocho pier "A" berth.
The shuttle service provide for those who want to explore own pace.The shuttle bus operate between Minatocho Pier and Hakodate Community Design Center adjacent to Jyujigai tram stop.10-miniutes walk up slope to Hakodate Ropeway Sanroku(Submontane) Station or 2-minutes walk to Waterfront area.There is a shopping mall inside remodeled Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses.To JR Hakodate Station get off at the third tram stop "Hakodate-Ekimae"There is a famous Hakodate Morning Market or "Asaichi" that opens at 5am (6am during winter) to noon, just south of the JR Hakodate Station, It is a great place to enjoy fresh fish and seafood, Hakodate's signature fish is squid, and you'll find Boni Moriya department store opposite "Hakodate-Ekimae" tram stop.
There are more sightseeing spots in Hakodate, Visitors can see the magnificent star shaped fortress from Goryokaku Tower, "Goryokaku" is Japan's first western-style, star-shaped fort, which was built in late of Edo Period.Trappistine Convent, located 40 minutes by bus from Hakodate Station, was founded by eight nuns sent from France in 1898, and has statues of the Virgin Mary and Joan of Arc in its front courtyard.The Shuttle bus for Goryokaku tower and Trappistine Convent leaves Hakodate Ekimae every 30 minutes from 10:00 to 14:30The Shuttle bus operate on the weekends or national holidays and Daily services for summer peak season(July 15 to Sep 15).If you plan to visit on the weekday except summer peak season. please refer to Hakodate Tourism Access Map(pdf file)

The Mashu Maru is a memorial ship that introduces the history of the Seikan ferry,She was a former JNR Seikan ferry, linking Aomori(Honshu) with Hakodate(Hokkaido) before the opening of the undersea Seikan Tunnel.
