I saw a post on another website that Americans flying directly from the U.S.A. to Australia for tourism can arrange for their visa through the airline when booking a ticket. However, no responder has confirmed.

Anyone have any knowledge or experience in this area?

Some airlines will, some airlines won't. Some airlines who will, will charge. Some airlines who will, won't.

So the best place to get the information from is your airline.

If you want to get an Electronic Travel Authority directly from the Australian government, the website is http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/index.html The cost is AUD 20, so you don't save any money by going to a commercial outfit like that named in lasuvidaboy's post.

yea....we can do it here at a travel agency while booking a flight....takes about an hour....jeff

We've had them for years and you can do it when booking through a travel agent as well. They're not exactly visas. Just permission to stay for 3 months. Anything longer and you need a proper visa. You still need to fill out immigration forms before arrival and departure though.
