searching for a cruise that calls on many of the islands. We are also extremely interested in history. Cost is a factor but want to see as much as possible and be comfortable. That means not too many children on board. Hoping to do this next Spring /2007. What can you suggest? ship...itinerary.....even where to request a stateroom on the ship for the best viewing. Also what shore excursions would be recommended. Thank you.

Try louiscruises.com, they will go from Piraeus to:
Mikonos (with Delos), Santorini, Patmos, Rhodes, Crete, Kusadasi (for Ephese), Istanbul.
Or .... just from Pireaus with all the ferry's to all the Greek Island, see :

Have a look at Celebrity Galaxy's 'Best of the Mediterranean' itinerary for next year: Rome, Messina, Mykonos, Kusadasi (for Ephesus), Rhodes, Santorini, Athens, Naples, back to Rome. (There's a couple of sea days in there as well.)

That's three islands plus two Aegean mainland destinations as well. Plus a couple of Italian calls.

That's a great website Henri... enjoyed reading through that. Celebrity do have a nice itn, but to really see many of the Greek Islands a small ship cruise is required... I mean really small ie a flotilla sailing holiday. There are many companies doing this, but of course there is not the luxury of a large cruise ship.

For luxury try .. Elegant Cruises.. on Sea Cloud.. Ernst can show you everything about this luxury vessel. Monet & Andrea do cover a few Greek isles, but mainly stick to the Adriatic.

Not many [any?] mass market vessels will give you more than the 3 calls above. Oceania do some 3 calls, Lesbos, Rhodes & Crete. Maybe better to decide either which places you really want to see, and try then to find a ship.. or decide on the ship and take wherever she calls.

Take a look at Emerald Princess, coming out in spring of 2007.

Has a terrific itinerary, and will be a brand new ship.
