They're probably all working this year, but I would still advise you to check. There must be some internet resources.

The views are great, but as I recall you need to get up quite a big hill to catch the Cable Car which crosses the dock area.
Yes, there are two. The one known as the Montjuïc cable car links the top of the funicular [by the open air swimming pool and bus stops, which must be the one Tom is talking about] to Montjuïc Castle. This is the one which has been closed since the end of 2004 for renovation and not yet reopened.
Walk further down the hill on the road from the funicular and you'll eventually come to Miramar Gardens and the Harbour cable car. This is not part of the TMB transport system, whereas the former is. If you go up, it is still a long trek up to the castle itself.
From a ship, the best place to board the harbour cable car, is at the central 'station' Torre Jaume I, in front of the World Trade Centre on the Moll... you buy a round ticket and go up or down [to the beaches] first.. then you must alight, and join the queue to board the cable car going in the opposite direction, you are not permitted to do a straight round trip. Then you go to the other end, get off, and rejoin for your trip back to the entre point... but you can always alight at the centre point without doing the full round trip. It's about €9 return for a full trip.
It will be a minimum 1 hour if the queues are light... but in busy periods there could be loooong queues to get back aboard and the cars are fairly slow. In wind, rain and any sort of adverse conditions they seem to close it down. This could leave you a long walk back! I have been to Barcelona 3 times in the last 2 years, and only once has the car been running.. too windy on the other occasions, and this last time, we were at the beach end when the operators were discussing closing it.. luckily they didn't and we got back.. or it would have been a trek!
It is well worth the ride for the views and photos, but do not contemplate if time is tight.
