Has anybody on that side of the pond got any comments. What kind of weather or sea crossing we might expect.Grateful for any kind of info anybody might think is useful on any aspect of this trip. Thank You, Iain
The weather in L.A. in October is usually very mild. The last few days here have been cool and wet but this is not typical. Expect clear days in the mid 70s and clear (cooler at the coast). The weather at sea close to California can be on the cool side (in the 60s) and as you get closer to the Hawaiian Islands the Tradewinds will warm it up. As you approach Hawaii the seas usually turn a deep cobalt blue and are beautiful. We have expierenced choppy seas between here and the islands but modern ships easily handle it. If you have not chosen a hotel in L.A. I would avoid downtown L.A. as there is little to do there. It is more of a financial center w/few interesting sights. The Westside communites of Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and surrounding areas are great places to stay w/lots of sights and restaurants to enjoy. Have a great trip!
If you do stay overnight in LA, why not choose the Queen Mary. Make sure you book an original cabin. She's not expensive.

Maybe your dream will become a reality?
The QM is well worth a couple of nights stay The only problem is that she is in the middle of nowhere, but that did not matter to me, I spent two nights and an entire day touring her and visiting the submarine.
You can book on-line. She does not cost sa fortune.
DONT MISS HER!
Actually Long Beach is not too far from the LA Airport and about 1/2 hour to West Hollywood.

As long as your realise that she's NOT a five star hotel, she's an old ship, you will love her.
I hope you have picked an 'original' cabin and not a modernised one! You will see how some of the QM's decor has influenced that of the QM2.
Many of the QM exhibitiom areas are only open durung the day time, so try to get their early in the day and/or depart late in the day.
Isn`t anything in the LA area somehow in the middle of nowhere?
Yes true, but the QM is probably more isolated than most. But who cares!

..that`s what I meant - Los Angeles (I know, she is in Long Beach) is not really the city you explore by walking around. And finally Queen Mary is 'enough' to keep one busy for some time.

Yes and the Aqarium is excellent.
If you self-tour the entire QM, do one of the guided tours, visit the sub and do the 'Ghost and Legends' (silly but you do get to go deep within the hull) you could esily occupy two nights/days.
I only had the opportunity for one night aboard - and this happened to be during this Halloween party...there was a traffic jam on the way to the ship - being in it I did not yet know that EVERYONE wanted to go to the ship....luckily the hotel part was not too crowded and on the next day the ship was 'empty' again.
