Does anyone has any information about getting from Fiumicino airport to Civitavecchia cruise terminal?

I ask because Celebrity are apparently charging £350 extra for a fly/cruise package out of Civitavecchia next summer; or, to put it the other way round, if you buy a 'cruise-only' deal and arrange your own UK - Civitavecchia transport, you can save £350 per person....

9.50 euro from Fiumicino to Termini, then another <5 euro and just over an hour to Civitavecchia, then a short taxi ride.. 5 euro maybe.

Then your flights.. way less than £350!

So it is via Rome? - I was hoping maybe there was a direct connection of some sort, with them both being on (or near) the coast.

Yes, you take the Leonardo Express from the airport to the Roma Termini, which is one of the main stations in Rome, from where you take the train to Civitavecchia.

As Pam said, take the Leonard express from Fiumicino Airport to Termini station (in Rome). When you walk out of the Fiumicino terminal go dead ahead up steps to the platform. Buy your ticket and validate it in the yellow validating machines on the platform. At Termini you will have to walk a distance of about 500metres up the platform as the line from Fiumicino falls just short of the Termini terminal. The line to your right as you step off the Leonardo express is the one for Civitavecchia. At present there is a special service to Civitavecchia for cruise travellers. You should be able to find out the times for this train on the Trenitalia link given to you by Pam.

As for a direct route to Civitavecchia from Fiumicino, you may have to catch a taxi (which would cost a fortune) or enquire whether they have a bus available. The other option is to hire a minibus or limo together with a few other people. My last time at Fiumicino was in 2002.

Isn`t it easier to change in Ostia or Roma Trastevere compared to going all the way to R. Termini and back again?

I expect so Ernst. Putting it in the search boxes it seems to be just as easy taking the metropolitan train and changing at either of those stations. Maybe less of a walk too? a bonus with the luggage & same cost. All the trains run so frequently too [in theory].

Note you are in Sheffield, try one of the low cost airline to Ciampino, there must be one that goes there from your area. However avoid Ryanair they do not like passengers with luggage & charge a fortune over 15kg. We are flying Easyjet gatwick-Venice & Ciampino-Gatwick after cruise next month. Eric

Italian trains are usually reliable - the only thing which happens from time to time is a strike.

I've also found a chauffeur car company that could take us direct from Fiumicino to Civitavecchia for just under €100.

A slight correction: Ostia is on the coast (as Lido di Ostia) and there is no service from Fiumicino over the Tiber to there. I think you meant the Ostiense station, which is just after Trastevere on the way to Termini. Close by the Ostiense station at the Piramide (Pyramid) a train can be caught for Lido di Ostia on the Roma-Lido line.

The service that stops at Trastevere and Ostiense from Fiumicino, as Pam pointed out, is a metropolitan service – the Leonardo Express is Fiumicino-Roma Termini and vice-versa. This metro service, from memory, does not go to Roma Termini, but Roma Tiburtina which is way off track. The metro service is mostly used by commuters, it takes longer (by approx. 10 minutes), it is cheaper, it may not be as comfortable and it may not have as much room for luggage. Of the two stations mentioned, Trastevere is the closest to Civitavecchia, it will shorten the trip there by only a few kilometres.

Tom, this is your best and most speedy option. The price does not seem to be too bad and about the norm for that distance. I have used taxis twice from outer Rome (suburb adjacent to the ring road/freeway interchange for Naples), and paid both times €45 (once L90,000). Civitavecchia is about twice that distance (maybe just short of it). Visit this site and compare your price: Rome Airport Shuttle.

100 E from FCO to Civitavecchia is a good deal and eliminates a lot of hassle and is well worth it
