Xian is one of China's ancient capital cities.
The City is surrounded by City walls.
In the suburbs of Xian is the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC). One of the world's greatest archeological sites, the tomb is best-known for the some 6,000 large terra-cotta figures of soldiers and horses found buried around the tomb.

Other tourist sites:

Bell Tower (Zhong Lou)

Big Goose Pagoda (Dayanta)

Shaanxi Provincial History Museum

Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses

and many package tour includes;

Tang Dynasty Dinner Show

Spending some time at the Huaqing Hot Springs, located about 35 kilometers east of Xian city at the foot of the Lishan Mountain is a must for every visitor to Xian. For centuries emperors came here to bathe and enjoy the scenic beauty, and it has been a favorite spa since the Tang Dynasty. Huaqing Hot Springs can be conveniently visited on returning from the Terracotta Army site.

Just pulled this thread up from the archives.

We'll be doing a post-cruise in Beijing beginning 10/2, after our Sapphire Princess 22 day sailing from Vancouver. We plan on doing 3 nights Beijing, 2 nights Xian, and back to Beijing before returning home.

We'd like a package for the Xian portion, namely airline tickets, transfers to/from hotel, and driver and guide for sights. My research to date has yielded only Pacific Delights as a possibility.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Ocean Liners, we're counting on you....thanks!!

You might also want to check out some of the Uniworld itineraries while most have a 3/4 night Yangtze component - there is also a land programme featuring Beijing/ Xi'an and Shanghai. As w/ any tour - don't be fooled by price - you get what you pay for. Enjoy - it was a remarkable trip for me!

Hi annnthony,

I had toured Huaqing Hot Springs, tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses and Bell Tower in the second day,
Third day, I spend most time to visit sights in Xian until late afternoon flight to Beijing.

There are local restaurants near Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses but I recommend to have a lunch at one of Hotels in Xian.

ANA Grand Castle Hotel Xi'an( 5 Star )

Hyatt Regency Xian( 5 Star )

Shangri-La Golden Flower Hotel ( 5 Star )

Sheraton Hotel ( 5 Star )

Howard Johnson Ginwa Plaza Hotel, Xian ( 5 Star )

So You might be spend half day tour and heads for suburbs.

For Dinners, Dumpling Banquet with Tang Dynasty Show must to include on your Itinerary.

Hi Ocean Liners.

CITS has put together an excellent customized private package for us for 7 days post cruise to include a day-and-a-half in Xian, a 3 night Yangtze river cruise on Victory cruises, and 3 nights with private guide in Beijing.

Thanks again for your recommendation!

Jekyll ,
If you have time in Bejiing go to the Pearl Market and Silk Market. Be prepare to be a tough bargainer.!!!! It's expected!!You can buy also sorts of stuff at ridiculous pricing. Beware as you can get stuff that is junk vs some really excellent stuff.
Cabs are cheap, bargain on price before you leave your hotel, use the hotel concierge to help you tell the drive where you want to go. Get a Hotel card to show the cab driver for your return.
For further details e-mail me direct as I will give you who to see for watches and purses( replicas).
