The Canary Islands make profitable world-wide the tourist promotion of the ' Queen Mary 2 '

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, today, and Las Palms of Gran Canary, tomorrow, are the first Spanish cities in which the British ship makes the stop at its inaugural trip

n Everything is prepared to receive to transatlantic the greater and luxurious one of the world. The Harbor Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has predicted a program of acts to entertain the 2,620 passengers whom Mary 2 takes to the Queen on board who will begin the cruceristas nothing else put the foot in the stairway with the performance of a group folkloric and a typical product tasting. The Queen Mary 2 will be dismissed before it leaves to the port of Las Palms of Gran Canary, with a fireworks exhibition. The capital tienerfeña is the first Spanish city in which the Queen will make the stop at its inaugural trip Mary 2, who left from the port of Southampon (Great Britain)last Monday with all her occupied staterooms.

When the Queen Mary 2 arrives today at eight in the morning to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the city will remain small before its immensity. Its immensity fully surpasses the height of most of the buildings of the capital tinerfeña, with the exception of one of the two Towers of Santa Cruz who already is constructed and who has 32 plants. Also the disembarkation of 2,620 people will be everything an event for the neighbors of the capital tinerfeña, especially if it considers there is predicted no special device to welcome in the tourists who remain in the city.

The City council calculates that 80% of the tourists will remain in Santa Cruz all the day (600 cruceristas ones already have contracted an excursion by the Island), for that reason all the activity is developed "to boat foot". The councilman of Economic Development, Emilio Atienza, explained that, in collaboration with the Harbor Authority, the City council will take until the port a detent of informers "to facilitate to the cruceristas information and to orient them towards the commercial zone of the city". The only recommendation that becomes is directed to the retailers and proprietors of restaurants, to which it has been requested to them that maintains their businesses all the day open. Atienza wants that the image which the cruceristas of Santa Cruz take is an image "of modern city and activates". Of the satisfaction with which the tourists tonight leave the capital tinerfeña will depend, it affirms, the "fidelity" of the Cunard company, proprietor of the Queen Mary 2, with Santa Cruz and transatlantic the greatest one of the world continues touching to earth tinerfeña in all its trips. The ship of British flag arrives tomorrow at the grancanaria capital.

70,000 people will visit the Port to see the most luxurious cruise liner of the world

The ' Queen Mary 2 ' of the Cunard Line arrives at Great Canary surrounded by great safety measures l Soft Santa Catherine will be peatonal during a day

n the Harbor Authority of Las Palms hopes that 70,000 people approach Las Palmas de Gran Canaria tomorrow to see greater the transatlantic one of the world, the Queen Mary 2, who visits Gran Canary in her inaugural trip.

Juan González, head of Operations of the Harbor Authority of Las Palms, noticed that during the day they will take place rush hours where 4,000 people will concentrate themselves "reason why he is recommendable which the citizens who approach the port to enjoy the programmed activities make it in good condition public and those that do it in their own vehicle park it in the zones qualified by the Harbor Authority, in the Wharf of Sanapú or the parkings of the Commercial Center the Wharf.

To Las Palmas de Gran Canaria the pedestrians will only be able to accede. As much guaguas as the taxis will be located in the rising part of the Wharf, like the official cars. In the part the west they will be able to leave and only to enter the vehicles and limousines requested by the members of the transatlantic one, for which a separated track of the peatonal zone will be qualified.

As far as the security, an evacuation plan has been prepared and a plan of harbor protection has activated. As much the national police as the Civil Guard guardamuelles will along with control the earth security and the harbor police. In the sea, the Civil Guard and the service of guardamuelles.A will be present their time, the boat arrives with their own safety measures, in alert two to avoid possible attacks. The reception the QM2 received in The Canary Islands was spectacular, especially in Las Palmas. This was the only port that the people were allowed onto the dock area. Thousands of people lined the foreshore and dock area, cheering and clapping as the ship approached. A carnival atmosphere continued all day on the docks and surrounding area. All the passengers were made so welcome. Women were given beautiful flowers and fans as they left the ship. The guys were given hats. On our return to the ship we were presented with posters and postcards of the ship with maiden call on them. People five deep lined the corridor leading to the gangway and clapped and cheered the passengers as they returned to the ship. On the dock a large mural of the famous poster of the QM2 was created during the day. We were led to believe that it was made out of coloured salt. Everyone on the promenade deck could enjoy this magnificent site.

The passengers were so taken with the welcome and hospitality of the people that they bought heaps of postcads on board and took them out to distribute to the children and people who had been there all day.

The farewell was even more spectacular. There was literally no room on the dock and the foreshores were also very crowded. The fireworks were fantastic. They continued along the foreshore as we moved out. (Approx. 1 hour). The commodore said that in all his years at sea this was one of the most spectacular receptions that he had ever seen.

Our thanks must go to the people of the Canary Islands for the incredible reception and hospitality they afforded QM2 and her passengers. It made the maiden voyage a very special cruise and they will never be forgotten.
