We are thinking of going to Venice in the off season. In early March to be exact.

A few questions are:

1. what is the weather like at that time?

2. is that the time of the high tides in Piazzo San marco?

3. are the usual tourist stop open at that time of the year?

4. any hotels( smaller family type but not budget) ) that can be recommended?

any information would be helpful

I actually went in February a few years ago. All of the toursist attractions were open then, but with no long lines!

We got a really cheap off-season deal and stayed at the Amadeus, which is actually rather expensive. It is smallish, but rather nice. However, it is a bit of a walk to the main sights, but everywhere in venice is a sight. It was near the Jewish quarter.

The most famous hotel with a great location is the Danielli, but it is top dollar!

I would imaginre the weather in March would be just right.

The water buses are great fun and cheap.

It is simply a wonderful place to visit! It is one of the worlds greatest cities - PERIOD.

In March the weather in Venice is generally cold ( around 14° C ). It's the time of high tides in Piazza San Marco, so be very carefull. All the monuments and museums are open until late afternoon, without any crowd. I suggest you the Hotel " Palazzo La Scala ", near the Goldoni Theater, in Calle dei Fabbri. The price for a double room is $ 115 for night. I believe you will have a wonderful trip.
