A few questions are:
1. what is the weather like at that time?
2. is that the time of the high tides in Piazzo San marco?
3. are the usual tourist stop open at that time of the year?
4. any hotels( smaller family type but not budget) ) that can be recommended?
any information would be helpful

We got a really cheap off-season deal and stayed at the Amadeus, which is actually rather expensive. It is smallish, but rather nice. However, it is a bit of a walk to the main sights, but everywhere in venice is a sight. It was near the Jewish quarter.
The most famous hotel with a great location is the Danielli, but it is top dollar!
I would imaginre the weather in March would be just right.
The water buses are great fun and cheap.
It is simply a wonderful place to visit! It is one of the worlds greatest cities - PERIOD.
