I'll be boarding QE 2 on 20 Feb 03 in Darwin. Anyone here familiar with where QE 2 will berth in Darwin - at a pier or out in bay? Also, as I will arrive Darwin a day earlier, which hotel which you recommend I and my partner stay - 4 star, reasonable price (say A$150 or so per night), convenient to city center? How's the Holiday Inn? I guess whereever we stay, it will be convenient via taxi to whereever QE 2 boarding would be? I've asked Cunard for info on where QE 2 would berth, but no response. Thanks in advance.

I've been able to get some info on hotels and rates, and now likely to stay at MGM Grand Hotel Casino, which has rates for standard double room not much more than rates at Holiday Inn, for example. Only question remaining is where the QE 2 will berth. Anyone know?

QE2 will probably dock at the Stokes Hill Wharf, which is located fairly close to the city centre. The wharf is now a tourist area with resturants and other facilities.
Taxis are available but an alternative is the private car service whose cars and drivers tend to be of a better standard (still at taxi prices).
Just for your information, the MGM Grand is approximately an 8-10 minute drive from the city centre. If you're wanting to be closer - the Carlton, Holiday Inn or Saville Park Suites are all on the Esplanade - only a short walk away.
Hope this is of some help. If you'd like more information, I'll try to answer any questions you have.

Beth, thanks for the reply and information. As we will be in Darwin 2 full days before boarding, we will book at MGM Grand, a 5 star resort with tennis, golf, shuttle service to city centre, etc., and whose standard room rate is only A$20/room/day more than Holiday Inn, a 4 star hotel. Nice to know that QE 2 will berth so close to city centre. Really looking forward to being in Darwin and then the "queen of the seas". Thanks again.
