catbil: We took one of the tours off of the ship which included a manatee watch and a snorkeling trip to a very small island with lunch and drinks. Great snorkeling.
Our friends went ashore and went to some very nice ruins outside of town on their own and had a very nice time.
I came to the conclusion that other than going ashore to see the ruins and the town this was a port where taking a ships tour was advisable.
If you go to http://www.belizex.com it will tell you something about Belize
What other Ports are you going to

In Grand Cayman there are many options that both you and your kids will enjoy. You can take them on a horse back ride on the beach, on the Atlantis Submarine, rent a boat or wave runners and tour the island, swim with stingrays and many other options. You might find these sites of interest

There's lots to do in Belize. With the second longest barrier reef in the world the snorkling and scuba diving is superb. That includes Shark Alley where the water is abudant with nurse sharks and rays. There are Mayan ruins to explore as well as rafting on underground rivers. Check to see is NCL offers horseback riding. If it's at Banana Bank Lodge it's great. We stayed there and it's beautiful. You'll ride through the jungle as well as the river, it's pretty awesome.

Although Belize City is much better now than in earlier years, it's not like getting off at the dock in Cozumel or Grand Cayman. So , stick to the tours for now. If you're really adventureous you could arrange your own. The people are very freindly and helpful. You should really enjoy yourself there.

K&K, do you know what island you had lunch on?

i visited belize city while sailing onboard the regal empress. all cruise ships have
to anchor in the bay since
belize has no docking facilities.
i toured the miain ruins which
was great on the way back to
the landing the bus drove through the city. truely 3rd
world. nothing like cozumel.
stick to the tours.

jmfleser: Sorry about the delay in answering as we were gone for the holiday's and since been pushing snow around. I do not think it had a name it had maybe thirteen palm trees on it with a cabana and barbeque area I would say maybe 1/2 acre but very nice and some of the best snorkeling we have had in a long time.
I figure next trip we will maybe swim with the sharks!
