We are planning a trip on the Costa Classica for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I have never been on a cruise. I am worried the rooms will smell like smoke. I have heard that smoking is allowed all over on this ship. Is the ship fun? Is it casual? Are the ports somewhere where you just shop or can you do some fun things? Just a few of many unanswered questions. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, newtocruise

Welcome, newtocruise.

Here my answers:

the Costa Classica is an 53000 tons big Ship, rated 3 Stars and a Plus, so NOTE: This is not at all one of the Best! It is middle-class, as we say in Germany.

The Style is some Italian, but the Company belongs to Carnival Cruise Lines.

The Ship will not smell in all places for Smoke, but note: a lot of Southern Europeans on Board will mean: there are a lot of Smokers an Board.

The Ship is spacy enough, that you come out of smoking areas, please assign a table for non Smokers in the Restaurant, tell them, you have Asthma or Bronchitis, and you will not be disturbed at your Meals.

The Athmosphere on Board will be good and friendly, the entertainment is one of the better points, especially if you like Italian Way of Life...

The food and Service are the weak Points, it is mass-market Banquet Food by Zerbone catering, this is an worse Ship Caterer. The food is precooked on Land and made hot, when needed.

I recommend Celebrity Cruises, where each Item in the Dining Room is made fresh on Board.

The Cabins are spacious and well equipped, but poorly isolated.

It is an Casual and nice Athmosphere on Board.

Which Ports do you enter?
Did you get an special offer?

Note: Do never pay brochure Prices, at the Moment, there are offers enough, if you are flexible with time and Cruise Harbours.

Eastern Europe has a lot of nice Places, best time to travel is Spring or Autumn.

If you have more questions, be free and ask here.

Read my Readers Review Costa Romantica Caribbean to Europe April/May 2001, it is the Sister Ship, 1 year younger than this, but exactly the same size.

You get it under Reviews/ReadersReviews/Costa/Costa Romantica/Transatlantic/April-May 2001.

Hallo Newtocruise!
The Costa Classica is a very elegant ship, completely refurbished in contemporary tones last year. the cabins are very large and offers many amenities including a safe and a minibar. There are many lounges on board, all decorated in typical italian style, including a large theater, a grand bar, a ballroom, a panoramic disco and excellent fitness facilities ( free of charge ). The restaurant is totally smoking free. The service is friendly and attentive. The Cuisine is very good, offering many international dishes with an emphasis on the italian regional specialties. The ship performs a very interesting itinerary. I suggest you to not reserve any excursion ( they are very expansive ), particularly in Santorini, Rhodes and Dubrovnik ( you can easily explore yorself these places ). Have an excellent cruise!!!

Thankyou Amerikanis and Italian Cruiser for you replies to my questions about the Costa Classica. Your information is very much appreciated. We will be going in June to the Greek Islands. I have been there before as a college student twenty five years ago and I'm sure they have changed enormously. I am very curious about them. I remember how beautiful they were. I'm glad the Classica is rated OK. I guess I would love to hear how great it is but I'm sure we will enjoy it very much. Thankyou for your replies. I had trouble locating your answers until today. Happy cruising to you!

Hi, Nebrasil,
i have read your Reviews.

This is very good commented.

Instead of tasteless Food on Costa Liners, i recommend an Adress in Brasil, where you can eat very good Meat Dishes:

CHURRASCARIA CARRETAO

Ronald de Carvalho, 55
Praca do Lido
Copacabana - Rio de Janeiro

Tel.:_ 542-2148

Mhhhhmmmm....

Hi
Amerikanis
I have the feeling that you do´nt speak portuguese, so this is the translation:
I agree with you again: Carretão has excellent barbecue. If you come again to Brasil, let me know and I will be pleased to assist you.
newtocruise
Costa Classica is a very good ship to firstcruisers, I am sure you will enjoy your cruise.
Italian cruiser
As I told you before, Italian food is the best in the world.
