Has anyone used the long term parking facilities at Port Lauderdale? Family is taking a one week cruise out of there, and I am thinking of leaving my car in the garage there while we cruise. Is it safe? Has anyone had good (or bad) experiences there?
I am afraid, of course, of theft or vandalism, and I can't get any info from the authorities. Thanks for any input.

My husband and I drove to that port for an Easter vacation cruise - seven night. Our car was safe. The biggest problem we had was the return of 12 ships at the same time. We were told that a bus would take us to long term parking with our luggage. Not what happened. It took us 3 hours to get out of that port. The biggest traffic jam I ever saw (and I'm from NY) and only one person from your party was allowed to go on the bus to get the car (without luggage). I stood in the heat for 2 hrs. waiting for my husband (no one was allowed into the terminals once we were checked out). Needless to say when we were finally in our car and slowly tackling traffic an ambulance and police were speeding on their way to where we were waiting. I felt like I was going to drop dead from the heat. Someone must have I am sure. The port employees were rude, unkind and uncaring. I rate Port Lauderdale as the worst port I have sailed in and out of. Hope you don't live that nightmare and things have improved.

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada, several of the hotels on the 'airport strip' have long stay (free or very minimal charge) parking if you stay at the hotel the night before you leave for vacation.

Perhaps some FLL hotels do the same thing - worth checking.

Good luck and Happy Cruisin'

Thank you for your mcuh appreciated responses. The hotel idea is good, but unfortunately will not apply for us.
The horror story about the bus etc. seems all too real. I can just feel the heat standing on that pier!!
I was under the impression that the long term parking was in the garage structure that is right adjacent to the piers, within walking distance. If this is not the case, than your comments are indeed most enlightening. Thank you

In some instances the pier is close to the garage. But wasn't the case in ours. Hope you're closer and have a great vacation. Enjoy

Oceansdevine,
Having used that Lauderdale before, without my car, I seem to remember that our Celebrity Cruise Lines ship was docked near a garage. The far away piers were used by Princess Cruises and maybe Dolphin, I think. Does that seem right?

We've sailed out of Port Everglades 11 times and parked at the cruise terminal each time (7 to 10 days.)
THE CAR WAS ALWAYS SAFE.
This was with Princess, Celebrity and Holland-America.
Often you can walk between garage and ship. Sometimes, if it is too far for you, there is a convenience shuttle and it is free with all cruise lines.
Have a great cruise and be worry free.

P.S. Parking is now $10 per day but the convenience is well worth it to me!

Great news JoeO,
Thanks alot. I am probably going to do it because it is so convenient. Just one more question, did you park in the concrete 40 or 5 story garage near where Celebrity and Holland America dock? Or is there some distant open lot that I don't know about?
That is the garage I had in mind when I considered doing it. I will be sailing on the Millenium and I think it docks within walking distance.
thanks again
