Hi,

I booked a Mediterranean cruise on board the Crown Odyssey. The best port is Rome and I want it to be a memorable shore excursion. I don't want to be there and not see as much as possible.
Can someone tell me if the tour bus reach Vatican museums entrance?

Will we have to stand in line if we arrive with a tour?

Tour buses do reach the main square just in front of the entrance to the Vatican City and it is a very short walk from there.

Unfortunately people on tours still have to stand in line with the crowd. The best advice is to get there as early in the morning as possible. Try to book your tour ASAP on the ship so that you get a low number and consequently one of the first buses.

Its worth the wait.

Hi Jules,my wife and I did the Rome bus tour thing and we loved it.As far as the Vatican tour is concerned there were line ups but they went in very quickly.It was hot but there were vendors selling bottles with various liquids of your choice.It was well worth the wait.I suggest dressing lightly if the weather is hot,of course that will depend on the time of year.Good luck.
ps. We are originally from Scotland but long time in Canada.

And while one should dress comfortably to match weather conditions, one should also check to see that it's "modest". In the Vatican, as well as some other churches one might see, they demand a more conservative attire, and even consider men's shorts "immodest", and do state that they will deny entry. Now, I have seen them allow (with a hostile stare) men and women with shorts in, but I've also seen people turned away. I guess it depends what mood the guards and staff are in (once I was with a friend who was wearing shorts; one church let him in, another didn't). Just to be on the safe side, I would recommend that the men folk wear slacks and a shirt, and women wear dresses/skirts down to the knee, or slacks, and a blouse where at least the top of the arms are covered, and no more than the top button undone. You might get in dressed "less modestly", but don't take the chance.
