Wife and I are going on 12 day cruise 9/26/01 - 10/8/01 on Carnival Spirit (hope all the bugs are worked out by then).

Ports of call are...Kona-Kailua, Maui, Kauai and Honolulu. We are also spending another couple days in Honolulu after the cruise, right on Waikiki beach. It's our 7th wedding anniversary and kind of a 2nd honeymoon type vacation...as a theme for anyones suggestions.

Any suggestions on places to go, people to see, etc etc, would be a tremendous help. Also, cruise leaves out of Vancouver, BC. We are flying in to Vancouver a day ahead if there's anything must see there as well.

Thanks in advance for your replies and suggestions.

All of Hawaii is beautifu.

In Honolulu be sure to go to Pearl harbor Memorial. It is worth the time to stop by. go early in the AM, the wait gets longer as day goes on. We took a tour, we would have better off getting up and taking a cab directly to the pir and being there early.

Kaui is a gorgeous island, just not enough time to see much ina day. We took a tour and saw a lot of things but it was very busy.

At Hilo we went through the Lava tube and up into Volcano national Park. well worth the trip. It's supposed to be better to see by helicopter, but I'm not real comfortable in one.

Waikaki is realy full of tourists butthe beach was fun.

Enjoy

We spent our honeymoon in Hawaii and have been back on our 5th, 10th and 15th anniversaries (although we decided we won't go again! It is now too commercial, very little of the real Hawaii left, just expensive designer stores you could see in NY catering purely to the large influx of Japanese tourists).

Honolulu - the Bishop Museum and Planetarium, the recently renovated Aquarium, Pacific Beach Hotel's restaurant with its own huge aquarium tank where they feed the fish during dinner, and the battleship Missouri - all fantastic, especially the mighty Mo.

Kauai - hard to get around without your own transport but Fern Grotto is really lovely.

Mauai - likewise about transportation but the volcano is worth the trip. And if you are going at this time of year Maui will be completing surrounded by whales - a brilliant sight, you can normally even see them from the shore.

Have a terrific time, it is a great place for a 2nd honeymoon - we've had 3!!!! and happy anniversary!

cheers
Elaine

Been twice and loved it. Definitely to to Volcano National Park - it is wonderful.
Was disappointed in the Fern Grotto but the rest of the excursion was worth it.
Honolulu - Pearl Harbour and the Punch Bowl - did that on our first cruise.
Honolulu is very commercial and just like another big American City. Fortunately we have a friend who lives there and she drove us outside the city for a great tour - saw places we would probably never see on a ship's excursion.
Have a super time

We took the reverse cruise a number of years back. We did not go to Kauai because of major storm damage at that time. At all of the rest of the Islands we got together with another couple and rented a car. (at the dock each time not pre-arranged) We reviewed where each tour was going and went to the best of each. We saw more and it cost less.
As for Vancouver... you can get an all day pass for the transit system. The cost is about $5 cnd and get around pretty good. I don't remember the name of the rail system but there is a station right at the cruise terminal 1/2 block. We got on and rode to the end of the line and came back (after stopping at a shopping mall). There is a boat that goes across to North Vancouver that is part of the transit system it is a nice little trip with a shopping area on the other side. (What can I say, she likes to shop)

Hi Billybob,
A trip the brochures won't tell you about...
When in Waikiki ,if you want an amazing experience ...watching the sunrise over the Island from the top of Diamond Head can't be beaten.
It means an early start...and I mean real early...you will need to rent a car to do it......but hey only for one day....You enter the crater through a tunnel ,it is a military base ,so a soldier unlocks the gate in the dark.. and then you drive to the car park.
Wear sturdy shoes as the track is over volcanic rock.......plus take a TORCH as the final ascent to the summit is via a ladder inside a tunnel.......but when there ,the view ,and the sight of the sun rising over Waikiki ,will blow you away.
You will need an early night before and a wake up call ......
What a 7th anniversary...............
Just a thought...Hawaii is fabulous and no matter what you decide to do, or where you decide to go, you can't help but enjoy it .
