I don't think so, because you bypass the duty-free shops on your return.
You will probably find that the price of Alcohol (and just about everything else) is cheaper in a NY Liquor store than at home? You will need to carry your passport to buy liquor in the USA.

Wouldn't think so Paddy - you've cleared Customs in London and are now in your own country - connecting to Belfast - flying to Dublin might be different.
