Our cruise in January leaves from Tampa. We're flying in a day before the cruise. HAL is not offering their pre cruise package deal. What is a good hotel to stay in?

It's been a long time I sailed from Tampa but we used to stay at the Westshore Guest Quarters, which is the hotel HAL used. Don't know if it still goes under that name or if it has changed its name. It was a lovely hotel and a full breakfast was included in the price of your suite. Suite consisted of a living room, bedroom and compact kitchen.
Why not try the hotel HAL has listed in it's brochure - Tampa Marriott Waterside. Don't understand why HAL is not offering their pre-cruise package, unless the hotel is full or that the rooms that HAL set aside for passengers are filled.

Thanks, Sympatico. I'll check it out. Thought you might be interested to know that the Marriott Waterside is fully booked (except if I book both the Saturday and Sunday ???). There must be something going on in Tampa at that time. My travel agent has us waitlisted with HAL in case rooms become available and they offer their pre-cruise package. However, in the meantime, I check out your suggestion and surf the net for other possibilities. Thanks again.

That is exactly what I was thinking. In '99 when it was held in Miami, Pier 66, in Lauderdale was booked solid, but we got a last minute cancellation with a group our TA was taking on the Statendam and it included a room, otherwise we would never have had a hotel room.

Based on their website, the super bowl is the weekend after we depart. Must be a convention or something in town the weekend we're there (Jan 20th). My TA was able to get a room - if I recall correctly, it's at the Marriott Westshore. Anyone know anything about its location (i.e. distance from the port, good place to dine, etc.)? Thanks.
