Not much - a real port city. All commercial interests around the port. Been there twice and went to paris and then went to Normandy ( much better than Paris ).

Malcolm,

Another good topic from you. I hope you can keep this one going since Le Harve is one of our ports in June.

Willy Paul, We have also been to Paris but not to Normandy. We thought we would opt for Normany on our upcoming trip. What were some of the things you saw and/or did around Normandy? How far from Le Harve are the sights?

Is this an area to do on your own or would the ship's program be the best option?

The trip from LeHavre to the Normandy battle sights was about 90 minutes, but a lovely ride. We started at Sword and went up to Omaha Beach. We made stops at the American Cemetary at Coleville ( I thought this was one of the most beautiful places I have seen ), we stopped at Point Du Hoc and had a chance to see where the rangers scaled the Cliffs, and went to Omaha beach. We had lunch at the (then) new Museum at Caen. I thought the museum was facinating. They used old footage, sound , and still shots and put together a super exhibit using current technology. I would rate it as one of the top five tours I've taken on any cruise ( 19 ). I have to tell you that I am a history buff so I am a litlle prejudiced.

In my opinion, Paris is one of the worlds greatest cities! However, I'm not sure if you could really get a feel for it in only one day onboard a coach?

It's a bit like visiting London or New York for a day - you could only skim the surface! Mind you, better to go for a day, than not at all

I Second Malcolm's comment. Years ago we spent a week in Paris and could have used more. However, Our concern was whether a one day trip including the travel time would allow a good visit. I would think the trip would also probably be expensive.

Willy Paul,

Great information! That give me an idea of what to research before we go. Thanks...

Skyhawk - my wife took the tour to paris and it was about 2 and a half hours+ each way. It cost her in the area of $100.00+, we cannot remember the exact price. The tour included sightseeing from a bus, lunch on cruise boat in the Seine, a visit to Notre Dame, and a short time on their own. She agrees with Malcolm, you definitely need more than a day tour. By the way, we were on Celebrity Century.
Have fun.

Normandy would be my choice.
Living where you do, Paris is easily reached and I understand there are some real 'cheapo' junkets - Normandy is history!

If all else fails, flip a ha'penny! Please correct my spelling

Cheers, Isobel.
