I've read that the snorkeling is good because of the marine park. Have others found this to be true? Can you just snorkel right off the beach there? Also, do most of you agree that Orient Beach is the best beach to try, or are there other beaches that are better?
Any help would be great!
Snorkeling is supposedly best at Pinel Island, just off Orient Beach. The last time I was there I took a tour of the island and the cab driver gave me prices that beat the ship's tours hands down. As I recall the cab ride was about $10, then an additional $6 (round trip) for a small boat to Pinel Island.
Although I haven't done this yet, I will be doing just that in February when we sail on the Ocean Princess.
10x, early February or late February? (We're going the week of the 18th, so if you go before that, you'll have to let me know how it went!)

Laura - both times we have been to Orient Beach, it was very windy and the red flags were out warning of an undertow. You really can't snorkel off orient beach as the waves are too high. As for Pinel Island, the one time we went there, also had that problem - the water was very choppy - it was the Atlantic side apparently, and we saw no fish and just getting out into the deeper water was very hard. I am sure there are other spots to snorkel, but I don't know where. Just wanted to warn you about the undertow.
