We will be on the first Transatlantic Crossing of the new five-masted Royal Clipper sailing from Cannes on 7 October. All ports except Barbados will be new to us and we would like to make most of the port time. Our itinerary is Mallorca, Ibiza, Fomentara, Malaga, Canary Islands and Maderia. Please share your opinions on what we "shouldn't miss" or "don't bother" in the above ports, especially on something really special that you may know that is not in the books.
Thanks for sharing!

Mallorca (I assume it is Palma port). The city itself holds a lot of interest, the catherdal, government building etc. The shops are fine but nothing to write home about. Its a 40 minute walk from the port ar a 5 minute taxi ride.

Further afield there are the caves of Drach just outside Porto Christo which are well worth a visit. You walk underground into the caverns and hear a clasical music concert then travel out on the underground lake. Need to take an organised tour for this.

If you are a shopoholic then Porto Pi is a 5 minute walk from Palma port (to the left as you leave the main gates). It has some lovely shops, a wonderful cheese tasting shop/cafe and a supermarket which sells extremely well priced goods of all types.

Ibiza (Ibiza town port?) - nice to walk around the front or go see the castle onthe hill.

Malaga - the town is nice enough but nothing to get excited about. The usual pavement cafes and shops. The catherdral is worth a visit. You can go further afield to Granada which is a good way tospend the day.

Canary Islands - Tnerrife and Grand Canaria are much the same for amenities. Lanzarote has some wonderful volcanic sites which you should try to visit. La Palma, the smallest island has the biggest crater on the planet (really)and very little else! The people on La Palma are very friendly, you will probably get a flower from the tourist board when you dock.

Madera - is wonderful, the whole island is full of flowers. The flower market itself if worth a visit. You sould also try the drink which comes in different grades and types. Then there is the ubiquitous sledge ride(wear something padded as it is rough)

Sorry I havn't been to the other ports you mention.

Palma de Mallorca: If you have time, try and visit Cap Formentor, the very northern tip of the island about 90 mins drive from Palma.
Málaga: City is quite nice, and for shopping El Corte Inglés is a must. Otherwise try to visit either the Alhambra fortress in Granáda or the cathedral in Sevilla, both about 2 hours from Málaga.
Lanzarote and Tenerife: Of the main islands these are probably the most interesting. The two national parks, Timanfaya in Lanzarote and Teide in Tenerife, are worth a visit, especially Timanfaya. Nicest beach in Lanzarote is probably in Playa Blanca where most of the ships dock anyway.

Paddy.
