I am booked on the Voyager for july and was wondering about the safety of Jamaica. I was there several years ago and was very lucky to have an excellent taxi tour driver, who kept my friend and I safe. This time, I will be traveling with someone who have never been to Jamaica. Have conditions got worse? I can deal with the hagglers, I am just wondering about more serious crime. ( the last time I sailed from Jamaica, several young cruise passengers were busted for pot and were not allowed to get back on the ship).What about safety in Cozumel?

Personally I wouldn't get off the ship in Jamaica but a lot of other people feel differently.
Suggest that you go into "search" on this forum, type in Cozumel or Jamaica and you will see many comments about both these ports.

Just got back last month (Dec 4-11) from the Carnival Triumph with stops in Jamaica and Cozumel.

I too had been to these ports a couple of times prior and had mixed emotions of getting off the ship. Well much to my surprise we did get off the ship and had a GREAT time!

Jamaica has turned friendly! No Problem Mon
Truly had a great time. Went para-sailing, did some shopping, visited the beach...and yes the locals continuously asked if we'd like a 'Red Stripe' beer or any water sport activities we simply said no and they left us alone. Even had a couple guys that came around about every 45 minutes to check on our beer situation. Overall the trip was very enjoyable. I'd recommend getting off and having a good time...just keep your guard up as a precaution and you should be fine.

Last year we stopped at Cozumel. Having been there before we rented a Geo Tracker and had a great time. It was fun to be on our own. People were friendly and we found a great out of the way beach. Loved sitting on that beach sipping that Coroana. Ahhhh, honey call the travel agent!

Just returned from a cruise & did get off the ship in Cozumel. The locals tried their best to sell us something; however, we said "no thanks" and they left us alone. Didn't have any problems and felt safe.
