Hi, was wondering if anyone has taken a transcanal cruise and if they could tell me about the shore excursions. Some of the places we will hit are San Juan, St. Thomas, Aruba, Cartagena, Puerto Caldera, Cabo San Lucas, and Acapulco. We are the adventurous sort of people. The four of us range in age from 27-36. We would love to hear about the best places to snorkel, or other activities such as rainforest hiking, rafting, nature watching--that you have done. I appreciate hearing anything about these places.

We have been on trans-canal cruise 5 times. All of the ports that you mention are full of good tours. I suggest you just pick your favorites from the shore trip book the cruise line provides with your cruise packet.
Book when on board early, as some of the most popular tours are filled quickly.
Enjoy!

We went through the Canal on RCCL's Legend of the Seas in February, 1998. We didn't get off in Costa Rica, but most tours required a longish ride. But the group that went to the volcano were lucky enough to actually SEE the "caldera" - often it's blocked by clouds. I think it's Aruba that has the jeep tour - and it always gets rave reviews from everyone. They caravan several jeeps - with people deciding among themselves who will drive. They are able to go to some beach areas the regular tours can't go - and they have the chance for snorkling and a meal, too, I think. Someone else may be able to give you more info about that. The other stops should have some adventurous tours - helicopter or plane rides, biking tours, etc. Hope you hear from others - we opted for the tame tours as we wanted to get a feel for the country the first time through. Good luck, and enjoy!

Victoria. My wife and I hit Aruba on a Souther Caribbean on Rhapsody. We took the jeep tour and it was a bast. It does take most of the day but includes snorkeling, swimming and barbeque lunch. Our guide was also very good. We are going back to Aruba on Mercury on a canal cruise 4/16/00.

Have a great time.
