We would like to fly to the New England area and sightsee, then take a cruise (7 day?) from the east coast. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are having trouble finding information, because there don't seem to be many departures in the summer months; the only information we find is for repositioning cruises in the spring and fall.

Hi Sherry, I'm from New England & travel a lot in &out of the area. There is a cruise to Bermuda from Boston in the summer. There are also cruises to Nova Scotia from Maine, also summer only. There are also various ferry trips to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard& Provincetown [ the tip of Cape Cod ]. There's also Plymouth plantation & of course Boston itself [ the only city that is also a national park too ] Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with

Sherry - There is quite a large Windjammer Assoc. in Maine. There must be at least 10 or 12 different ships which sail throughout the upper New England states, including Bar Harbor. They run primarily in the late spring, all summer and early fall. This would certainly be a more relaxed, casual cruise if you are looking for something like this. The scenery must be spectular. If you are interested, I can get the information for you.

Forgot to mention - Most of the sailing ships leave from Camden, Maine. I requested brochures from this Assoc. and noticed that majority of people on board seemed to be in their late 30's to mid 60's. Hope this helps.

most cruise departures are from New York to Montreal or Quebec. A few from Boston.Much to see here in New England. A coastal trip from RI to Maine. RI has a web site - Ocean State on Line. Massachusetts also has a site. Southern coastal Maine is beautiful. it has beaches or you can head in land for the mountains and the drive is not that lpong.
Hope this helps - have fun
